Students at Grimes Elementary School learned about West African culture Thursday as Baba the Storyteller presented an incredible virtual Black History Month assembly for the school. Baba shared the story of a woodcutter who was rewarded for his honesty as well as the story of how a village was able to save their crops when children worked together as a team. Baba also shared the West African language of Bambara, and played a "Kora" -- a "storyteller's harp"made from a hollow...ed out gourd. Thank you, Baba, for bringing this rich cultural experience to our students and thank you Grimes for ensuring students are able to have fun, engaging and meaningful assemblies even during Distance Learning.

Our modernization project for Colton Middle School’s Frank Acosta Multipurpose Room is nearing the finish line. As we get closer to the finishing touches, keep your eyes out in the coming weeks for a digital ribbon cutting produced by Falcon News! The 7,100 square foot building was originally built in 1954. This project includes interior renovation of the multipurpose room and staff lounge with new concrete stained flooring, acoustic wall and ceiling panels and energy efficie...nt LED lighting. The wood stage floor is refurbished. Electronic display and menu boards were added to the MPR, which will also get a special mural recognizing retired teacher Frank Acosta, to whom the building was dedicated in 2011. The project also included adding another 780 square feet to the building for student restrooms and drinking fountains. The serving area and kitchen were completely renovated and furnished with brand new hoods, kitchen equipment, sinks, walk-in freezer and refrigerators. This $2.1M project is funded by Measure G proceeds. Want to get involved in our Measure G Citizens Oversight Committee? We have openings! Applications are available at www.colton.k12.ca.us/Page/35 or by emailing [email protected]. The Board of Education will approve committee appointments from the pool of applications received.
