Our prayers go out to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the friends and family of Deputy Adam Gibson, who was shot and killed last night along with K-9 Riley, while attempting to apprehend a parolee suspect. A second deputy was also shot during the incident and is expected to survive. We wish the injured deputy a full and speedy recovery. Deputy Gibson leaves behind a wife and 9-month old child. Rest in Peace Deputy Gibson and K-9 Riley!

2020 Chief’s Award Recipient This year has been a roller coaster ride and definitely one for the books. It was a year for us to look back and really reflect how much we have learned and grown together as an organization. The resiliency of the members of this department shined day in and day out and the nominations submitted for this year’s Chief’s Award really solidified all of the good work that has been done throughout the organization. This year’s Chief’s award recipien...ts are Detective Sergeant Roger Jordan, Detective Jay Rosset, Officer Daniel Mendoza, Officer Anthony Berkovatz and Detective Anthony Mckenna. Under the direct supervision of Detective Sgt. Jordan this team has stepped up and took a majority of the over 125 supplemental reports and case summary narratives related to various high profile cases. The members of this team are investigating the first homicide in Colma in over 25 years and numerous other high priority cases. In addition, both Detective Rosset and Detective McKenna took numerous additional cases since the beginning of June while assigned to the Detective Bureau or while covering patrol shifts. Not included were the supplemental reports taken for officer cases that required follow-up from Detectives. Officer’s Mendoza and Officer Berkovatz have continued to assist in these investigations, while still working their assigned patrol shifts and field training a new officer. All this in between a year that included Covid-19 and other numerous historic events was nothing short of impressive. This year’s Chief’s Award couldn’t have gone to a more cohesive group. Each of them have utilized their own strengths to make these cases work and they have been motivated, cooperative and focused the entire time. It’s been an outstanding group that has exemplified professionalism and Excellence as their Standard. The work that this group has accomplished exceeded the standards required for the 2020 Chief’s Award and their dedication has been amazing.

We would like to recognize Detective Sergeant Roger Jordan on his retirement from the Town of Colma, after 25 years of service. Detective Sergeant Jordan began his career in 1995, where he started as a police officer and then promoted to sergeant in 2001. Detective Sergeant Jordan served as the range master, gang task force sergeant, field training sergeant, and many additional duties throughout his career. 33Sam1, we wish you the best of luck on your next chapter. Your leadership and friendship will be greatly missed!

San Mateo County Health officials are strongly discouraging trick-or-treating this year, due to the COVID-19 health concerns. Because of these recommendations, the Colma Police Department will not be conducting our annual trick-or-treating celebration or providing traffic control in the Sterling Park neighborhood this year. If you are a Town of Colma resident and have not already done so, you may still register for our alternative youth event by contacting the Colma Recreati...on Center at 650-985-5678. On 10/4/20 at approximately 1149pm, a Colma Police Officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the 2200 block of Hillside Boulevard and observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a vehicle stop and, upon contact with the occupants, observed an open container of suspected marijuana in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle provided consent to search the car, which resulted in locating two semi-automatic handguns and a 30-round high capacity magazine. After subsequent investigation and a post-Miranda statement, one occupant, a 21-year old male from Hayward, admitted to ownership of the weapons and was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on numerous weapons related charges.
