The fog is heavy and the vines are at 80% veraison. The fires are fading and I feel confident we weren’t affected by the smoke.

The humid, southern, tropical winds have shifted to dry, north winds tonight. The vines are dry and clean of mold. Getting the first Brix tests this week. Probably 16-17 Brix on ripest areas of Coastlands. Mixed veraison in most of the deeper soil of Old Firs Block and Diane Cobb blocks. 1906 block is 90% version and going to move fast in the upcoming heat. Heavy fog expected next weekend, which will slow final ripening. Still expecting sept 7-10 in older vines and 3-4th for Ricky hillside of 1906.

What a dramatic shift from yesterday. 92 F yesterday and then lightening, rain and now humid and 80F. Feels like an east coast summer. Vines are drying out in the patchy blue sky now, so if anything the grapes got a nice rinse off, but no mildew or botrytis yet. As long as it dries out quickly we should be okay. Maybe the lightening energized the crop. It was so windy our garden was flattened and umbrellas were down, but they still blew across the field a 100 meters.
