Coastline Charters 24.02.2021

Last couple days down at the Lost Coast have been been classic fall days to remember! Flat seas, sunshine, big halibut, and piles of colorful rockfish and lings. We had 4 halibut to 76 lbs on Friday and limits of rockfish and lings to finish off their freezers for the winter. Yesterday had an ultra light load and we had the three halibut we needed with two over 60 lbs and a little 32 lber for the captain after kicking back two small ones under 30 lbs! Tuesday looks like more prime conditions to get to the zone that is untouched and kicks um out if you want to get out hollar at me. Crab and all depth rockfish starts at the beginning of Nov also and I’ll be running trips crab only and crab rockfish combos thru thanksgiving maybe longer for those interested. Marc 707-601-3474

Coming off some real nice weather and more epic trips down at the Lost Coast for the last few days. Some monster halibut, big lings, and piles of big vermillion among the other varieties were the prize. Tuna around offshore now also and we will try to focus on them after Labor Day and hope we have some nice stretches of good weather. I have a few spots for rockfishing on weds aug 21 otherwise it’s looking like sept if you still want to get out this year on scrimshaw. Marc 707-601-3474

Daddy day care this week around here but not off the water. Got Henry and Grace and her friend Asha their first salmon today and even their grandpa Jon out there for some fast salmon action right out front this morning. Five fish to 14 lbs for the five of us in less than a couple hours on a nice sunny ocean. Back to fishing the forth of July. Lots of room in aug and a couple days open at the end of July if getting out this summer is on ur list to do give me a shout. Marc 707-601-3474

Finally some flat weather to work with!! Early limits of salmon again to 14 lbs today and ran across this pod of orcas on our run to the fishing grounds this morning. Late start but salmon limits for the crew!! Well no one got out for the salmon opener yesterday due to high winds and today was blowing till noon but we worked out there with a 1pm start into sloppy conditions that improved every hour and got rewarded. Five limits for the whole crew. Not monsters but happy with what we got while working with the weather we got dealt! First fish on in 4 minutes of first line in. They are deep but we have all week to look for other patches of fish. I have room for tomorrow, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. Friday is also wide open if u want a private charter or we can run it as an open load and weather looks good all week. Call Marc 707-601-3474

Pacific Halibut fishing has been steady but not wide open like most Mays this year so far. We have been getting 1-3 a day and the grade has been real good, almost all the pac halis so far this season have been from 30-45 lbs with only 3 in the teens. There were a couple days we ran for rockfish after a half day of hali fishing and we got limits of rockfish but were shy on lingcod limits. That should change by the end of the month when the lings get piled on the reefs from the... deeper zones. Salmon opens this Saturday and the salmon sign is all we could hope for out there. I expect things to start and stay strong through the entire salmon season with the set up we have going on and with what is going on elsewhere in the state. The crabbing has been real solid with the strings inside and outside the bay but Monday we pulled the gear till nov. We squeezed in a few hours on the halibut grounds for one 31 lber and limits of crab for the crew and captain too but that was it this week with the wind howlin since. The downriggers and salmon gear are on the boat and she is ready to go. Weather next week looks nice and I still have room for people next thurs and Friday if you want to get out give me a ring. Three nice pacific halibut today after a pair yesterday and some real nice crabs in the pots. We will keep at it a few more days till the wind makes us take a break. Still have room for later this month for Hali with bonus crab. I will pull the crab gear just before the salmon opener on the 25th. Call or text Marc 707-601-3474

The pacific halibut opener went good for us on Scrimshaw. Slow start and strong finish with an 18, 36, and 40 lbers and a handful of petrale hitting the deck by quitting time. We dumped some crab gear off also but only got through the string inside the bay with lackluster results. We will check out the outside string today and look for some more flat ones. I still have the boat open for Saturday and Sunday if you thinking about a trip give me a shout, weather looks flat! Marc 707-601-3474

Just back from a killer trip to Puerto Vallarta fishing on the Western Outdoor News open load trip aboard the Success. Awesome boat, crew, fishing, and weather made for a trip to remember!! We did 12 yellowfin tuna from 116-245 lbs in our 3 full days of fishing! Look for all the trip details in WON in the weeks to come. Our May 1st season opener is coming quick and looks like great long seasons to come for all we have to offer up out of Eureka. ring me to check some dates and we will get some plans to do some fishing. Salmon season alternatives have been issued and all CA KMZ zone has it opening May 25th. With all the small fish last year up and down the coast there should be planet of hungry 10-20 lbers this year. There is also supposed to be a high 4 year old Klamath age class that should throw some 30-40 lbs slugs in the mix! Getting ready to hop on a tuna trip aboard the Success running out of Puerto Vallarta in a couple hours so look back for some fishing reports in a few days. Pacific halibut quota is up this year also so good things to come this season! Pacific halibut opens May 1st and I’ll have crab gear in the water as a bonus till the salmon season opens May 25th. Hollar at me middle of next week if you are ready to check some dates on the calendar to come fish this season.

We are back from Baja with the kids and got back to more fall fishing yesterday. We found limits of a nice mixed bag of rockfish but only half limits on the lingcod down at the cape. Ocean was in great shape for our trip and the sun was out. We pulled crab gear on the way in for limits of crab for everyone including the captain. The weather and fishing has been outstanding all fall! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!! I will be selling gift certificates at this years rates through January, after which I have to bump fishing prices to keep up with the cost of doing business in CA. Call Marc 707-601-3474

It looks like we wrapped up our albacore trips for the season with only putting four fish on the boat last weds. The trip before we had 95 albacore, kind of a let down but we have been spoiled this season with big numbers. I will still be running some rockfish trips to the cape thru the end of oct this season if you still want to make it out get a group together and check some dates with me. The fall is a special time on the ocean along the lost coast. Thx to all the repeat and new clients helped us have a great season!! Salmon fishing should be real strong next year after seeing all the smalls up and down the coast and I will start booking pacific halibut trips for May 1st on after the new year which will kick off our 2019 season.
