The holiday of Tu B'Shvat is approaching! Commonly referred to as The New Year or Birthday of the Trees, its literal translation is the 15th day of the (Hebrew) month of Shvat. This agricultural celebration marks the emergence of Spring and is often celebrated by planting trees to enrich the earth or in honor of family and loved ones. Getting your little one to eat vegetables can be an everyday challenge. At Farm Camp, our "Farmers-in-Training" get to see where their food comes from, how it's grown, how to to harvest it, and then how to prepare it for a snack! Light, love, and latkes | Chanukah starts tomorrow night, and our Drive-Thru Chanukah on the Farm Event is this Sunday! We're getting fancy on you this year, and we're swapping out traditional potato latkes for yummy, seasonal carrot latkes. Yum! Using carrot ("gezer" in Hebrew) is an amazing way to sneak some more veggies into this delicious Chanukah staple! They are vibrant in color, rich in nutrients, and delicious in latkes.... Coastal Roots Farm and The Hive at Leichtag Commons were thrilled to welcome 300 community members of all backgrounds to mark the Sukkot holiday from the safety of their own vehicles. Why wash vegetables? They're organic! #Didyouknow: it is a common misconception that buying organic produce means there is no need to wash your veggies. While our organic growing practices limit the use of pesticides, they still pick up microorganisms and other living, natural things that exist in the soil. At Coastal Roots Farm, we "field wash" our produce to eliminate as much dirt and residue as possible. We are constantly working and adapting our food safety plan to ensure... customers get the safest, cleanest produce possible.
