Saturday, March 6, 9:00AM Watch online on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/TreeofLifeNursery After stewing over this for around 10 years, Mike Evans will finally let off some steam and attempt to make some sense out of southern California’s Mulch Madness in his presentation The Low Down Dirt on Mulch. Watch Mike discuss what works and what doesn’t in regards to putting stuff on the surface of your soil in your native garden. I can’t stay silent on this issue any longer, said Evans. Too many gardens have died. Don’t let yours become another statistic.

My friend & a mentor, William Christian of The Nature Conservancy California has passed away. Bill was a leader in Amargosa Basin conservation for 20 years, co-...founded the Amargosa Conservancy, and gave me a shot when he didn't have to. He leaves a legacy written in acres spared the bulldozer. In acre-feet kept in the ground. In cubic feet per second continuing to flow down through the generations. But perhaps most importantly, we are all his legacy. The whole generation of conservationists who has come up over the past 20 years to find their own joy and their own passion in the Amargosa. Bill was fighting for the desert and mentoring me up until the very end. When I heard he was doing hospice, I emailed him pouring my heart out about what he meant to me. His reply? He said only "undeserved" and then said "there's a hydrologist I want you to talk to..." - his final act with me was to continue to make connections and bring people together for conservation. Rest well Bill. We will continue the work.

Our shelter in place project this spring. Transformation of a mostly bermuda grass front lawn to a berm of water wise native plants. We had to drastically pru...ne trees, kill a lawn, move a lot of rock, pour concrete. It almost killed us, we did it ourselves, but it turned out nice. Rock streams and decomposed granite borders covered with weed cloth. Plant mounds mulched with shredded bark only. Plants sourced from UCDavis Arboretum sale, just before the quarantine shut it down. About 60 plants. Zone 8b. See more
Three upcoming online presentations from chapter of the California Native Plant Society. Two of them are this evening, Thursday, November 5. Sign up and check them out.
