Today our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sergeant Steven Licon. Sergeant Licon was killed on Saturday when he was struck by a car during a routine traffic stop. At 4:26 p.m Sergeant Licon pulled over a Chrysler sedan for speeding on I-15 between Lake Street and Nichols Road in Lake Elsinore. Parked behind the stopped vehicle on the Southbound shoulder, Sergeant Licon was in the process of taking traffic enforcement when a gray Toyota Corolla slammed i...nto him, his motorcycle and the Chrysler from behind. According to the CHP incident log the Toyota had been driving recklessly prior to the accident. Sergeant Licon was airlifted to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota was arrested was arrested on suspicion of "multiple charges," including "driving under the influence." Sergeant Licon was a 27 year veteran of the California Highway Patrol. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and step-daughter. The CNOA Survivors Memorial Fund has issued a check in the amount of $5000 to Sergeant Licon's wife.
