July is a critical month for #2020census responses because at the beginning of August census workers will start knocking on the doors of non-responders, which puts citizens and census workers at increased #covid risk. As #nonprofit organizations, you are trusted messengers, especially in hard-to-count and vulnerable communities. July is the time to share census information (as well as voter registration information) with your communities in as many forms as possible!

Already facing an uphill battle, the pandemic has only made the job of ensuring an accurate #census more challenging. As trusted messengers, nonprofit organizations play a vital role in helping to increasing the response rate. Already a challenge to count, LA County is seeing problematically low response rates, especially in communities of color. Currently at around 58%, we're way behind the 2010 response rate of 69% so we need to step it up. The good news is that the deadlin...e has been extended to October 31 so summer and fall are critical windows to get the word out. Over 360 programs depend on census data including Headstart, Title 1, WIC, and SNAP programs - this is how we get out tax dollars back in to our communities. With the help of NALEO Educational Fund and Advancement Project National Office we have compiled a list of resources to help your organization get the word out and incorporate census messaging in to your regular programs: We Count LA: https://wecountla.org/take-action/ NALEO's 2020 Census Materials: https://drive.google.com//1izFx4pekjiLYBsWiVJI9txqb_VXCopNG For Faith-Based Orgs: https://www.faithinpubliclife.org/census BLM + Census Messaging: https://drive.google.com//1fjGPwTpf0yZxoCaSXYJ47f3nv2cr36_ Census Counts Toolkit: https://censuscounts.org/gotc-toolkit/ On Friday, June 26 census representatives from NALEO and Advancement Project shared some great insights on how to incorporate census messaging into existing programs and talked about why ensuring an accurate count is so important. We're kicking off our Summer of Change virtual seminar series next week with an interactive workshop about how to make fundraising events work virtually: Events in Our Virtual Reality Thursday, July 9, 2020 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM... How do we host #fundraising events virtually? Is it appropriate for us to ask for donations while our economy is suffering? Where do we even start when planning to turn our gala or golf tournament into a virtual fundraising event? How do we fundraise without our paddle raise? Darren and Michelle walk attendees through a virtual event timeline, digital marketing strategies, and fundraising software solutions at every price point to successfully and profitably host a virtual fundraising event. #nonprofit #summerofchange #seminar
