This year, we're honoring Black History Month by joining with creators and artists to explore the importance of inspiration, self-expression, community, and culture. Meet Nicola Vassell, art dealer, advisor, curator, and founder of @concept__nv "A few black artists who I find personally inspiring include Claude McKay and Derek Walcott, both Caribbean writers who brought a distinctly West Indian intellectualism to the States. I love the work of James Baldwin, another courageou...s writer who dared to show America itself. I love Horace Pippen, a self-taught painter, who broke through tremendous artistic and social barriers to make his work seen and heard in the post-World War I era. I am obsessed with Kerry James Marshall, the great, who generated some of the most extraordinary images of our time, through a mix of expertise, observation, and humility.
