USFS Extends Developed Campground Closures on Twelve National Forests VALLEJO, Calif. USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region has decided to extend the developed campground closure on 12 National Forests in California to provide consistent COVID-19 mitigation response in accordance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Stay-at-Home Orders. These Regional Orders will be in effect through January 29, 2021. The closed campgrounds on National Forests are in California’s Greater Sacram...ento, Southern, and San Joaquin zones, including Angeles NF, Cleveland NF, Eldorado NF, Inyo NF, Los Padres NF, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Plumas NF, San Bernardino NF, Sequoia NF, Sierra NF, Stanislaus NF, and the Tahoe NF. Day use of National Forests will remain open for the health and welfare of Californians. We urge all visitors to follow CDC guidelines to recreate responsibly and check with your local National Forests before visiting. The Cleveland National Forest would like to remind visitors that our virtual offices will be closed for business on Christmas and New Year’s Days. In addition, President Trump issued an executive order on December 11 that closes all federal agencies, allowing federal employees to be excused from duty for Christmas Eve. Therefore, all CNF virtual offices will be closed on Dec. 24, 2020. #KnowBeforeYouGo

The Emergency Fire Restrictions have been extended through October 30, 2020. Regional Order No. 20-23 prohibits building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire or smoking on National Forest System lands, but propane and gas stove use are permitted in developed recreation sites in National Forests in California.

The Cleveland National Forest will partially re-open on Friday, October 9th, with some closures still in effect. Many campgrounds will remain closed due to end of season operations or because they are within closed areas, but many developed campgrounds will be available to campers. Dispersed camping will be prohibited until the end of the year and Emergency Fire Restrictions have been extended through the 15th of October.
