I commute up States Street every day below Corona Heights Park, first to get the VW engine REALLY warmed up for the trip, and second, to see if by chance a paddle has fallen off any off any of the ancient Opuntia cacti that perch precariously on the steep rocky hillside. If one is laying in the street, I stop to rescue it. But this particular paddle was misplaced and hidden under my potting bench at home for three years. Undaunted by the neglect, it continued to grow. By usin...g the stored water resource it had, this 12 leaf has produced two new ones. All of them will finally get the dirt they deserve today. #ClementNursery #MotherNatureRocks

In celebration of her second birthday today, our culinary academy-trained Dan baked Opal a cake made out of meat and veggies, frosted with mashed potatoes and squash, and a number two made out of braised carrots! Opal was kind enough to share with Pretzel, who belongs to our new staff member Audrey. Happy birthday Opal, and thank you Dan! #ClementNursery... #ClementNurseryOpalescent See more

We have a nice selection of the hard-to-find Alocasia reginula Black Velvet in stock. They produce beautifully veined leaves up to 18 in width, on a low plant that remains about a foot high. #ClementNursery #ClementNurseryHouseplants #AlocasiaReginulaBlackVelvet

Hand-painted pots from our good friend and neighbor Michael, a hand-painted rock face made as a gift for nursery dog Opal by a talented six-year-old neighbor, and a Tillandsia Xerographica, made as a gift for us all by Mother Nature. #ClementNursery #ClementNurseryHouseplants

To the customer who donated this unbelievably thorough (and thick) resource book to the nursery, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to give you a heart-felt thank you! Your EXOTICA’S Pictoral Guide of Exotic Plants (1970 Edition) shows the wear and patina of a true tropical plant lover, and will be used often here at the nursery. Again, thank you from the bottom of my Heartleaf philodendron.... #ClementNursery #ClementNurseryHouseplants

There’s no conclusive scientific reason why fasciation occurs in plants, but here’s a glorious example of it manifesting on an Aeonium sunburst in my home garden. Fasciation is thick, often flattened, stems and flowers or heads with far more than the usual number of flowers. Here, where there should be one rosette, are over 30 on one cresting stem. Fasciation is fascinating.... #ClementNursery #AeoniumSunburst #FascinatingFasciation

Just in from a private collector dismantling her garden in a move. Magic! #ClementNursery #ClementNurseryVintageGarden

You’ve seen my Euphorbia grandialata at home in several previous posts, she’s now officially out of control at over five feet in width. Fortunately my 3 foot cast iron mermaid can handle both the weight of the succulent, as well as the thorns. Plus they’ve moved to my dining table, so I never eat alone. This fantastic vintage mermaid comes from a customer, turned friend, now turned landscape maintenance guru at Clement Nursery. Welcome Monique Gin to the great crew at the... nursery. #ClementNursery #EuphorbiaGrandialata

I don’t know what you call the antique end piece from a chinese pagoda roof, other than absolutely beautiful. I bought this last week from one of several of our customers who have decided to move away from the city during this challenging time. I’m keeping this relic in my home garden to remember Bonnie, and David, Max & Lea and the other special friends I will, and do miss having in my life at the nursery. May your journeys end in happiness. Thank you for your special relati...onships. #ClementNursery #AeoniumSunburst

Air quality in the 300’s. Grey smoky soot on, and in everything. Today was just plain ugly. It’s the perfect day to share a pillow left behind the other day by one of our antique dealers who used it to pad a statue he was delivering. Friends are the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree of life.... He didn’t want it back. #ClementNursery #UglyThursday
