Hi, all, and good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, whatever time of day it is where you are. I just wanted to thank so many of you for participating in... the live podcast/talk I gave yesterday. Sincerely. For those of you who missed it, or want to watch it again out of sheer boredom while in social isolation, it is linked below. These are extremely unnerving times because none of us has ever experienced something quite like this, even yours truly. I have experienced several crises, and huge market drops...but never one that has caused such global disruption and a loss of life in this way, forcing us to modify our fundamental ways of life for an unknown period of time. This time IS different, as every crisis is unique in terms of the specific causes, policy failures allowing it to occur (if not persist), and the actions governments, businesses, and individuals take in response. However, we have been through global pandemics and unbelievable disruptions before (two World Wars, the Spanish Flu, Vietnam, Korea, the Cold War, OPEC crisis, 9/11, dot-com implosion, the Great Recession, and some others to boot), and a historical view is helpful, I think. One of the other messages I wanted to pass along is that we must help each other out in both small and big ways. A lot of people are going to need a lot of help, and our governments and policy makers can only do so much. And that is on a good day. I wanted to make some comments about that as well, once I had the forum and a microphone to do so. My parents (82 and 88) opened their front door yesterday to find some groceries on their front porch, delivered - without fanfare or them even asking - by an anonymous neighbor. How awesome is that? We can all do our part, in both little and big ways. Thank you to each of you, for being part of my life and friendship circle.
