#sold for $123,000 at Clars Auction Gallery this past Sunday! William Hahn (American, 1829-1887), "Logging Saratoga Gap, California" 1880, oil on canvas, signed and inscribed "San Francisco" lower left. William Hahn was born in Saxony, Germany, in 1829. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Dresden, and the Dusseldorf Academy. In 1869, William Hahn meet William Keith. They moved to Boston and shared an art studio, then the pair moved on to California. ... In California, Hahn experienced tremendous success. After marrying and traveling to Europe Hanh dead unexpectedly in the summer of 1887. He is most remembered for his detailed contributions of early California life. Hahn’s work is in the Oakland Museum, the De Young Museum. The National Gallery in Dusseldorf, the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York and will be offered this Sunday at Clars Auction Gallery.
