We have many programs that serve people, but programs mean nothing without relationship, and that is our heartbeat. Simply because genuine love matters. When we started our refuge housing program 11 years ago, what we said yes to was creating a place of beauty and honor...home. Belonging is the heart of who we are @cityofrefugesac and the opportunity to walk hand in hand with the bravest ones of all, who have said yes to their lives. It truly doesn’t get better than this. Sacramento bee released a story this week that exposes the harsh reality of homelessness in our city. We at City of Refuge see in the eyes of those who walk through the doors of our refuge housing program hopelessness turned into dreams. The day they see a reflection of the life that was uniquely purposed for them. The leader, the friend, the overcomer, the one who had a price tag placed on them too often enough, now seen as priceless. Hidden treasure, buried gold. What if homelessness wasn’t a problem, but rather a search for buried treasure. It’s national human trafficking awareness month , and all over the world we remember that slavery still exists. Here at city of Refuge we choose to put a voice to those who have been suppressed by it, and fight daily by pursuing intentional relationships in spaces where those most vulnerable can be seen. Our shine program serves elementary school girls as we go on a journey into discovering who they were meant to be. So excited for our first shine girl journal that just came out this week!
