Today at 6:47 a.m., a vegetation fire began in the area of Santiago Canyon Road and Silverado Canyon Road. OCFA firefighters were on scene of a 10 acre fire, wind driven with a moderate rate of spread. Crews are aggressively attacking the fire with ground crew battling the flames. Air craft support has been grounded due to the windy conditions. Additionally, The 241 is closed from Santiago to the 133. In working with our OCFA partners, it is estimated that at least 60,000 pe...ople have been evacuated so far with the fire consuming approximately 2,000 acres, said Mayor Christina Shea. We are asking everyone to comply with the evacuation orders for their safety and the safety of our first-responders. The City of Irvine continues to open care and reception facilities for our displaced residents. The City of Irvine Emergency Operation Center (EOC) has been fully activated to respond to this incident. The City of Irvine and the Irvine Police Department have issued a mandatory evacuation for the areas north of Irvine Boulevard between Jamboree Road and Bake Parkway due to two fires just north of Irvine. Six Care and Reception centers have been set up for Irvine residents and pets at: Los Olivos Community Center: 101 Alfonso Harvard Community Center: 14701 Harvard Las Lomas Community Center: 10 Federation Way Anyone in the evacuation zone needing medical assistance is advised to call 949-529-4774. The Southern Open Space Preserve that include Bommer Canyon, Quail Hill, and Shady Canyon trails is closed. In addition, Irvine Unified School District has issued mandatory evacuations. Parents are able to pick up their students at this time, otherwise Irvine Unified Students will be transported by school bus to Irvine High School. Tustin Unified students will be transported to Beckman High School via school bus.
