CALIFORNIA NORTHERN RAILROAD TO GO BACK TO DAY SCHEDULE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY The City of Davis announced today the City has reached resolution with California Northern Railroad regarding nighttime operations. For the last several weeks, train switching on the North-South railroad line in North and Central Davis had been occurring, typically starting very late at night and into the early hours of the morning causing considerable noise and disruption to local residents. Califo...rnia Northern Railroad (the rail operator on the line owned by Union Pacific Railroad) has notified the City they will cease night operations and go back to day operations effective immediately. Train operations may start as early as 7:30 a.m. and will typically conclude by noon. While the City holds no jurisdictional authority over railroad operations, the City did advocate strongly on behalf of our impacted residents to seek an amicable resolution to the noise impacts. We’d like to thank California Northern Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad for working with us to stop the overnight operational train switching work, said Vice Mayor Lucas Frerichs. We heard from hundreds of residents adjacent to both sides of the North-South rail line that sleep schedules and more were being negatively affected, and we thank Davis residents for their patience as we worked to resolve this matter. The community of Davis has long benefitted from the presence of active rail service for both passenger service and cargo to support commerce, said Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor. The noise associated with recent nighttime operations needlessly disrupted community residents and did not provide appreciable benefit to the operators. I am grateful to our government partners, the community members who brought this issue forward and to the rail operators for adjusting their practices. I’m thrilled that we were able to work with our partners at the railroads to come to agreement on this issue, said City Councilmember Will Arnold. Particular thanks go to our City staff for their fine efforts.

It rained last week! Yay! Rain is fantastic, but it makes leaf piles VERY heavy. So heavy, that Recology Davis is only able to fill their trucks up halfway with...out going over the weight limit. All those extra trips to the compost facility are taking up time, which is delaying yard material pile collection this week. If your pile is not collected on your schedule day, please know that Recology will get to it as soon as possible. #YayRain #WaterIsHeavy See more

Slurry sealing the pavement in Davis neighborhoods will be rescheduled until spring 2021. The affected neighborhoods are in West Davis, Mace Ranch, East Davis and one court in Wildhorse. A message was also sent on Nextdoor to these neighborhoods. Curb & gutter work, crack filling and base repairs are continuing and will be completed as scheduled. We apologize for this change, but this decision was made for good reason.... The slurry seal and cape seal product will not set up properly in colder weather and is susceptible to defects, which could cause failure of the product or would require unnecessary repair work and expense. After City consultation with our contractor, it was determined that with expected overnight temperatures, it would be prudent to reschedule the sealing work to ensure we get a quality end result. When we do this job, we want to do it right, and so the work has been rescheduled until the spring. We expect to remobilize our crews to perform the work once the temperatures for both the pavement surface and the ambient air temperatures are more conducive to installing a quality product. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] or [email protected]. Thank you for your understanding.
