Great news! Teachers, grocery workers and other frontline essential workers who live in Contra Costa County can now sign up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Contra Costa Health Services has updated its eligibility policy, extending it to residents who work in the education and childcare sector, food and agriculture workers, and emergency services workers as defined by Phase 1B of California Department of Public Health's vaccination plan. Residents in these groups, as well as ...county residents who are 65 years and older who have not yet been vaccinated, can sign up to access state and federal sites through www.myturn.ca.gov or by calling 1-833-422-4255. Essential workers and residents 65 years and older can also request immunization appointments through CCHS and join the county waiting list for COVID-19 vaccine. However, due to a temporary reduction in vaccine supply from the state, all appointments at county sites are filled through the next two weeks at least. Concord's Multiunit Housing Smoking Ban to go into Effect January 1, 2021: Earlier this year, the Concord City Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting smoking and vaping in and around multiunit and attached housing units. This restriction applies to both interior and exterior areas (patios, balconies, decks or porches) of rental and ownership housing types including apartments, attached condominiums, and townhomes. There are provisions in the regulations that allow for desi...gnated smoking areas meeting certain criteria, such as being 25 feet from an area used by children. The ordinance, which was passed at the January 7 Council meeting, went into effect on February 6, 2020, and became immediately effective for new units (new construction), but provided for a phase-in period for existing housing units. For existing units, the ban will go into effect on January 1, 2021.
