If you are looking for sand for sand bags there is a limited amount available at 901 Fir St. People must bring their own bags, available at any hardware store, and a shovel. The sand is in the parking area near the canine training area.

You may have seen City Mayor Sean Morgan on National news over the past couple of weeks. Although Sean doesn't necessarily enjoy being on TV, he says the biggest reason he has agreed to interviews is to get attention to this crisis which in turn raises needed funds. During this interview seen below, Sean raised approximately $1000 per minute from around the Country. Sean’s advocacy for our community during the current crisis brought the needed attention of humanitarians a...round the world. During his recent media interviews, Sean’s call to action inspired hundreds of thousands of people around the world to give generously to partner with North Valley Community Foundation in its crisis response. Alexa Benson-Valavanis, President and CEO North Valley Community Foundation Big shout out to the North Valley Community Foundation for providing such wonderful services to our community. We are happy to help promote the work you all do! See more

These three have always been fond of one another but it's safe to say, they are now friends for life. Paradise Manager Lauren Gill, Chico City Manager Mark Orme, and Butte County Chief administrative Officer Shari McCracken have spent a lot of time with one another since the Camp Fire began. What started as communities coming together has turned into something even stronger. These leaders are supporting one another every step of the way and they have formed a bond that can never be broken. Meetings used to start with handshakes... they now begin with hugs, smiles and tears of hope, because they are in it together, for the long haul, through thick and thin.

City crews worked quickly to roll out the welcome mat for our friends and neighbors from Paradise. Their temporary offices are at the former Chico Municipal Building on the corner of 5th and Main right behind the current Chico Municipal building. We all love having them here. What an incredible group of individuals the public servants of Paradise are!

Where are you spending your Black Friday Bucks today? Here's some other options on ways to spend. One of the most frequent questions the City of Chico has been asked throughout the Campfire disaster is how someone can donate and make sure the money stays locally and will actually go to the Camp Fire Victims. Below are the links for 2 of the ways you can donate and really make a difference in the lives of those who have lost it all. We want to thank everyone for their suppo...rt and willingness to give during these times. https://www.nvcf.org/fund/camp-fire-evacuation-relief-fund/ https://www.goldenvalley.bank/Community-Foundation.aspx

The City of Chico Acts Quickly: Within a few days of the initial disaster, The City of Chico supplied FEMA and CalOES with a list of available open building spaces in Chico as well as vacant land to use for temporary housing to house the tens of thousands displaced residents of the Camp Fire. The City has also sent them numerous other offers that have come in over the past two weeks and have joined them on site assessments. We look forward to FEMA's decision on what location(s) will work best for their needs.

TORRES SHELTER OPENS DOORS TO CAMP FIRE VICTIMS: The City of Chico has continued to partner with community organizations to make sure everyone living in the City has a safe place to stay. One of those partners has been the Torres Shelter who has been out with City volunteers compassionately encouraging people in tents to go to a warm shelter. We have provided gift cards, free transportation, money and food to encourage those camping to get into a safer place. Although our... efforts have helped, there are still several individuals who do not want to leave Chico and the Walmart property. Assistant City Manager Chris Constantin has been working the phones, making connections and finding resources. The Torres Shelter has agreed to open their doors to evacuees around the clock as this storm hits and Constantin has secured donations to make this possible from Golden Valley Bank. When the community comes together and works as a team, we can move mountains! Thank you to every one of our partners for having the same vision as we do to make Chico the best place to be for all! To find out how you can help the Torres Shelter and evacuees staying there you can visit their website: https://torresshelter.org/ See more

Aaron Rodgers called Chico Mayor Sean Morgan Monday morning to ask how he could help. We immediately got him connected with the North Valley Community Foundation who are giving 100% of money raised to the actual fire victims. Aaron, we are proud to call you a "Chico Boy". Thank you for always making us proud! #CampFire #ChicoLovesParadise

City of Chico responds to Walmart Camping: Official Statement The Camp fire displaced many individuals from Paradise, Magalia, Concow and other neighboring Butte County communities. The City of Chico has proudly served as a location for care and sheltering for many of these individuals. The City, community volunteers and residents have been incredibly welcoming in their giving and desire to support these evacuees through various proactive efforts.... Through this time, the city and our partners are aware of temporary shelters that developed during the chaos of the evacuations and the days following. These spaces of refuge created a wonderful place of kindness and wellbeing for the period immediately following the disaster. Walmart was one of the generous community partners that offered a site for respite and relief. Courageous and compassionate community volunteers came together and built an immediate safe place for many evacuees. Once more sustainable shelter options were available out of the elements and with other necessary services, the volunteers engaged these evacuees and encouraged those staying at Walmart to move to a safe, warm place. However, this location remains in place, and does not offer the level of safety, health and services that official sheltering locations do. The city has great concerns with the location as a long-term camping location, primarily due to the rain and temperature changes as well as the lack of services available to help evacuees. As such, it is vitally important to help these temporary residents locate to sanctioned shelters. The City, County and Community Volunteers have done extensive outreach with the individuals at Walmart offering free bus rides to proper shelters that allow camping and animals, direct shuttles intended just for those residing at Walmart, gas gift cards, money and food. Unfortunately, some campers have chosen to stay. Because this area is private property owned by the Walmart corporation, the City has no jurisdiction to dictate how Walmart uses their property. The City of Chico is committed to providing safe places for all residents in our community. We believe the infants, children and adults staying in tents on Walmart property deserve better. While we do not think the Walmart location is a safe or sustainable place for individuals to reside, we understand Walmart is working on viable solutions regarding this situation and we look forward to hearing their plans in the coming days. ####
