Throwback! A little buffoon learning how to read the stage early from the one and only, Ken! Ken Patsel, our Executive Director, started out as a stagehand for the @sfopera, then took over City Ballet - SF with wife and Artistic Director - Galina Alexandrova, and has been calling our shows since the very first one about 17 years ago. Now, this fall, we will have our very own theater to call home at the center of the Performing Arts District! STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Meet Kyra Orozco-Davey! Kyra is 13 years old and is in our Pre-Professional Division. Here are some fun facts about her:... I was introduced to ballet when I was two years old by my mom who teaches it. I fell in love with it more as I grew older and decided to start Russian Vaganova training when I was seven years old. My ballet role model is Diana Vishneva of the Mariinsky Theatre. I aspire to dance with the same passion and grace that she does. Her determination really stands out to me and I hope to be just like her in the future. My favorite memory of City Ballet - SF is being at the Palace of Fine Arts. The theatre feels like home to me and I get to spend time with my amazing friends who are like my family. For now my hopes for ballet are to keep training and improving as much as I can. One day I hope to be in a company where I can perform and do what I love as a job. We are so proud to have you as part of the CBSF family, Kyra! Keep up the great work.

After allowing us to operate for five consecutive months without incident, we are greatly saddened that the city’s Department of Public Health has decided to take away this valuable lifeline so necessary to the mental and physical health of these young dancers who are trying to maneuver through the pandemic. We have demonstrated for five months now that we can be stronger mentally and physically than this virus would lead people to believe. Although we have navigated through the city’s red, orange, and now safer yellow tier, and despite other businesses opening, these dancers - the demographic least at risk and most mentally vulnerable have just suffered an immense and unnecessary setback by the city of San Francisco. With Halloween just around the corner, we are reminiscing on our past costumes on stage. One of the best parts about being a performer is that you do not have to wait until Halloween to dress up, but can get into costume each time you perform! Without dance, what’s the pointe? Finding the perfect pointe shoe for a ballerina can be extremely difficult. Ballerinas often go through countless brands of pointe shoes throughout their career and can completely distort the pointe shoe so that it fits their foot perfectly. But when they do find the perfect fit, they are unstoppable!
