As you may have seen in various press reports the past couple of days, a number of security issues have been discovered in ZOOM. In response, we have decided this morning to adopt the more secure ZOOM webinar hosting software. As a result, there are new instructions for joining tonight’s session with Nadeau-sensei, as follows: 1) Everyone should immediately update their computer or smartphone/tablet operating system to the current version which typically has the most up to da...te security features. (general principles of Internet hygiene) 2) Everyone should immediately update their ZOOM client application to version 4.6.9 on their computers and/or smartphone/tablet. On MacOS computers, there is a check for updates tab under Zoom on the top left of the desktop screen. It may be slightly different on Windows desktops. If you cannot find a way to update your ZOOM app, instead uninstall/delete the old version of Zoom and download a newer version from your preferred App Store. In the case of smartphones/tablets, the delete-then-download process may be necessary. 3) It will no longer be possible to join the meeting simply by clicking the URL sent previously or pasting the URL into your browser. 4) The new hosting software requires that all attendees must join using the Zoom client software running on your device (newest versions please!) In the Zoom client, follow these simple steps to join Nadeau-sensei’s class on April 3 ZOOM session will open at 6:00pm tonight! a) Launch Zoom app on your device b) Click Join a Meeting (no need to sign-in) c) Enter the Meeting ID = 748-997-712 d) Enter the Meeting password = 105064 d) Next you will be asked to enter your name and email address to register for this session. This info goes no further than the meeting host. f) The host will allow all attendees to talk, but the default settings will leave everyone’s microphones muted. To talk to the group, you must always momentarily unmute your personal microphone. When you are finished speaking, please return to muted microphone. 5) If for any reason you are unable to join the Zoom meeting, it will also be possible to watch the Zoom live streaming on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apkl9MBooZw

Dear Aikido friends: These past few weeks have been challenging, and there is no certainty when things will return to normal, so after careful consideration and in an effort to err on the side of caution regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are canceling our OSensei Revisited IX retreat that was scheduled for May 1-3, 2020. We hope to coordinate another OSensei Revisited retreat when this crisis subsides. ... Meanwhile, please take care of yourselves, stay balanced and centered, and join our live Zoom calls with Nadeau Shihan. Visit our website for updates: https://www.cityaikido.com If you have any questions, please reply to this post.

To all members of our Aikido community: Thanks to Ken Kron, a recorded version of Friday’s nearly hour-long live video class taught by Nadeau-sensei is now available for viewing on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/dj3TMfnPxUM Friday's live class drew 40 remote attendees. Glad so many students of Nadeau-sensei were able to join despite the short notice. ... Email feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re already thinking about doing more live sessions going forward. Details will be forthcoming shortly. Please stay tuned. Best wishes to everyone. Stay healthy wherever you are.

Due to increasing concerns surrounding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and Governor Gavin Newsom’s recommendation for Californians to avoid even small group gatherings to protect the public health, City Aikido of San Francisco will temporarily suspend all classes for at least three weeks, after which we will re-evaluate the situation and let everyone know next steps. The suspension of classes will start immediately, effective Friday, March 13, 2020 and continue at le...ast through Friday, April 3. We are living in unusual times. Our Aikido practice in this moment is to adapt to the situation as it unfolds, doing what is necessary to protect the health of the dojo community and the safety of our families by reducing the chances of community transmission of this very contagious virus. We hope the suspension of classes does not last too long. And we hope that students will maintain their support for the dojo by continuing to pay monthly dues during the crisis to help cover the rent. Just because we can’t meet at the dojo as normal doesn’t mean our personal practice of Aikido should stop. To help us keep our center and stay grounded in the midst of this extraordinary crisis, Nadeau-sensei has agreed to lead us through Aikido exercises to Open and Settle via live video chat tomorrow, Friday, March 13 at 6:30pm. While Aiki-over-IP using ZOOM will never equal the full experience of physical practice in the dojo, it offers a way to continue our training together in a new form and through a new medium even as we must increase our social distance and stay close to home these coming days. All dojo members are invited to participate using ZOOM running on a smartphone (iOS or Android) or on a laptop/desktop computer (Mac or Windows). Just follow the instructions below to join ZOOM MEETING << https://zoom.us/j/6503880881>> It's easy and should be fun.

Dear City Aikido & Fudoshin Dojo members, Because the COVID-19 virus seems to be spreading rapidly in the bay area, we would like to send a message to all members to share what the dojo is currently doing and additional steps we will take, should they be necessary. The health and safety of every member of our community is very important and is part of our daily practice at the dojo. We are closely monitoring reports from the CDC and San Francisco County’s Department of Health... regarding the virus, and will make decisions based on these reports with our community in mind. For more information about the Corona virus, please visit the CDC site here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/ or San Francisco Health here; https://www.sfdph.org/dph/alerts/coronavirus.asp As a precaution during the current virus outbreak, we ask that all members follow the guidelines below: Stay home if you have a cough, fever or feel sick. Do not train or watch class. Wash hands thoroughly or use hand-sanitizer gel when you enter the dojo and at the beginning and end of each class. Wash your hands or use gel for at least 20 seconds. Everyone needs to do this consistently. Do not touch your own face or anyone else’s. Be aware of your technique and direction of your breath. If you cough or sneeze on the mat, immediately get off the mat and wash your hands with soap and water before returning to the mat. Please help out by wiping down bathroom surfaces with bleach wipes or by cleaning the mat with the mops. This should be done after every class. If you are diagnosed with Covid-19 or been in contact with a diagnosed person, please send an email to [email protected]. If you have any questions, thoughts or concerns, please feel free to send me a direct message. Sincerely, Amy Shipley
