The first of the Federalist Papers, a series of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay and James Madison, appeared in a New York newspaper on this day in 1787. The Federalist Papers were written and published to urge New Yorkers to ratify the proposed U.S. Constitution. Today also marks one week until the general election. The Library has a Voting Resource page that offers links to non-partisan voter resources.

Here are some creepy reads that our Librarians have put together to get you in the Halloween mood. You may want to leave the lights on after reading these. That weird noise outside? It's probably nothing....

Have you seen the video for "The O" by Shane Hall, commissioned by the Oceanside Cultural District and Friends of the Oceanside Public Library? It's a celebration of the emerging arts and culture scene in Oceanside that makes this City such a special place to call home.

Have you met Splash? Splash is a starfish who loves reading, and is the mascot for the Oceanside Public Library. They love Oceanside and the people that live here the most. The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library fund all of Splash's endeavors, including the custom made outfit. If you want to help support Library programs, joining the Friends is the easiest way to do it. Visit their webpage at www.oplfriends.org to join the Friends, and help us continue great prog...rams with Splash and you! In 2007 James Horvath, a local artist, created Splash with his imagination and a pencil and paper, and Splash was born! Splash even won an award in 2008 from California Library Association They are kind of a big deal. Splash is staying home and staying safe right now, so we are not seeing them at the Library these days, but they love coming to Library events and saying hi to all their library friends, and we look forward to seeing them again soon. We actually heard that they might start taking socially distant outside walks around Oceanside, (everyone needs their 10,000 steps!) so keep an eye out and take a picture if you see them! #whereissplash #nfolw20, #friendsofthelibrary, #libraryfriends See more
