Earlier this month, UCLA held the first Pritzker Emerging Environmental Genius Award Ceremony. A strong class of candidates led the university to include a sixth finalist, though only five were expected. Dan Hammer, a UC Berkeley doctoral candidate, was honored with the award. NIOSH recently published a document detailing key points intended to assist employers with protecting the health and safety of their workers, as well as assisting volunteers with recovery efforts related to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. A recent study by NIOSH and the University of Iowa concluded that workers in a rural setting were more likely to have high occupational exposure to vapor gas, dust, and fumes than their urban counterparts. Approximately 43% of rural workers in this study had significant occupational VGDF exposure, compared to only 15% of urban participants.
