Did you know that pencil grip is categorized as a fine motor skill? Children learn how to use the small muscles in their hands as the first part of developing their motor skills. Although learning to properly hold a pencil or other writing instrument can be a challenge, here’s an easy way to help your child perfect their grip: ... Lay a crayon with the tip toward your child’s hand and have them pick up with their thumb and index finger. Then, ask them to flip the pencil over to start to draw.
