During this pandemic, many of our service-learning community partners had to suspend face-to-face operations. However, community needs have not disappeared-- in...deed, many needs are all the more pressing. The Center for Community Engagement at CSUCI will be hosting a Virtual Volunteer Fair on Nov 17-18 for CSUCI students & the community to connect with nonprofit organizations in the surrounding area! Students will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from these organizations, learn about the mission & services these organization offer, & what volunteer opportunities are available. If your organization would like to participate, please email Jennifer Raymond at [email protected] #volunteer #opportunities #civicengagement #getinvolved #makeadifference #nonprofit #community #partnership #socialjustice #socialissues #connect #change #grow #csuci #thecsu #cce4ci #oxnard #ventura #camarillo #santabarbara #volunteerfair

Service learning opportunity. Sharing this promising opportunity from a CI Political Science alum who is working with colleagues at the New England Complex Systems Institute to support coronavirus response efforts through the endcoronavirus.org (ECV) group and specifically by volunteering with the incredible team at the COVID-19 National Scientist Volunteer Database (NSVD). Our team is made up of academic scientists, clinicians and entrepreneurs and we use our expertise to su...pport decision makers in their virus response. We have opportunities that might be perfect for some of your students. The volunteer role can be shaped fit a students interests and can range from producing blog content and briefing memos for high level political meetings, to managing our relationships with major external partners to joining the leadership team and supporting internal and external strategy for a 10 thousand person organization with dozens of parallel deployments at anyone time. While most of our work is pro bono consulting for state and local decision makers, and creating and deploying surveillance strategies, there are some recent examples of creative uses of our resources such as engaging NSVD to develop scientifically defensible guidelines for make-up artists and staffing the evaluation of the efficacy of a sars-cov-2 testing solution XPrize and our partner organization is a more pure play advocacy group pushing for green zones complexity science informed strategy to contain the virus. The adventure of creating a world premiere performance integrating dance, music, and theatrical elements inspired by the California Channel Islands starts tonight! Why political scientists, you might wonder? The Channel Islands are the home of the Chumash people, and the oldest human inhabitation in North America. In more recent history, the islands provide a setting for competing political interests--from farming and ranching to hunting, oil, military, conservation, educatio...n, etc. This unique interdisciplinary project is seeking researches, writers, actors, dancers, choreographers. Auditions are Tuesday (8/25) and Thursday (8/27) evenings, by Calendly appointment. https://performingarts.csuci.edu/featured/production.htm
