Celebrating Bodni Day this Sunday, Speaker: Reverend Ko'e Umezu MUSIC by: Dr. Kim Harris; Louise Dobbs, Music Director; and special musical guests, Joselyn and Don Advent Candle Lighters: Yoni and Ayanna Parker Host: Lauren Leslie... Reverend Ko’e Amy Umezu (she/her/hers) has been the assistant minister and community outreach coordinator of the West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple since August 2020. She received her first level ordination in July 2019 from the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha tradition in Kyoto, Japan. Rev. Ko’e is currently enrolled in the Institute of Buddhist Studies and hopes to receive a Masters in Buddhist Studies in 2022, and go back to Kyoto to receive her second level ordination. In her spare time, Rev. Amy enjoys reading comic books, drawing, and watching reruns of Law & Order and The Golden Girls. Since shelter-in-place has started, she has discovered that she also enjoys baking desserts to share with friends and relatives. Our services are interactive through Music, Community Sharing time & Zoom chat. This week's host & welcome from: Lauren Leslie Advent Candle Lighting: Yonathan Parker and Ayanna Parker MUSIC by: Dr. Kim Harris; Louise Dobbs, Music Director; Special Music: Joselyn and Don Joselyn and Don explore the crossroads of modern folk and soul through evocative songs planted firmly in American roots. Their debut album, Soar, takes the listener on an emotional journey through innocence lost to wisdom, and dreams deferred for something better. Joselyn’s soulful voice recalls both Laura Nyro’s soaring tones and Emmylou Harris’ country folk, while Don’s guitars play duet partner, at turns embodying outlaw twang, plaintive blues, and muscular rock. The music of Soar is essentially an acoustic duo, enhanced with lush textural layers and unexpected instrumentation, bringing to mind the fluid genre-hopping of artists like Yola and Michael Kiwanuka. We are more active than ever, though all online! Our anti-racism advocacy has expanded. Our Encouragement Group (for people experiencing loss) is reaching more people. Our interfaith services are more diverse, with people from across the county. Our calling campaigns and our advocacy for and with people with disabilities, people who are lgbtqia+, people experiencing poverty, etc has grown exponentially. And we have found new ways to support and care for the community during times of isolation and change. All while experiencing our own loss of about $10,000 per month, due to the pandemic. We appreciate your support, Please share with your friends and family. Little bits really add up! https://www.facebook.com/donate/402747357446012/10225720366814728/
