As police officers we help people on the most difficult days of their lives, and everyday we have officers that are unvaccinated responding to radio calls to assist citizens at their homes, and going inside these homes. As first responders we carry Narcan and defibrillators in our vehicles. We provide first-aide and CPR to citizens prior to firefighters and paramedics arriving on scene. We have not been allowed to get vaccinated yet by the San Diego County Board of Supervisor...s. There are several counties in the state of California that have already authorized their police officers to get vaccinated yet our county has not. We are asking our supporters to send emails to all the San Diego County Board of Supervisors asking that they authorize all San Diego County Law Enforcement Officers to get vaccinated. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these trying times. Thank you for your support. Chula Vista Police Agent Jasen Cunningham was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer). After many months of fighting his battle with cancer at the hospital and at home, he returned to work as a Motor Officer and SWAT Team Member. Unfortunately shortly after returning to work it was discovered his cancer has returned in a much more aggressive and debilitating form. Agent Cunningham is now home surrounded by his family and friends in Hospice care. Agent Cunningham’s wif...e is not only facing the loss of her husband’s income but constantly caring for him leaves her unable to continue to work fulltime. Agent Cunningham is a former Marine Staff Sergeant, SWAT Team Member, Motor Officer, and Gang investigator. Timeline of events: -June 4, 2020 CVPD respond to a report of a shooting at Red Roof Inn. During the investigation, officers identify 33-year-old David Angulo, ...a documented gang member, as the suspect who shot the victim at Red Roof Inn. The victim survived the shooting and Angulo fled. -June 22, 2020 CVPD respond to a report of a victim who had been shot by an unknown suspect. During the investigation, officers determine the suspect is David Angulo. -Yesterday, July 20, 2020 CVPD and agents from a fugitive taskforce observe Angulo in the area of Maxwell Rd and Main St in Chula Vista. Investigators had been searching for Angulo since the warrants were issued and had information that Angulo was armed with two handguns. An agent of the taskforce observed Angulo use a handgun to carjack a Ford truck, the agent attempted to stop the carjacking but Angulo escaped in the truck, driving against traffic at extremely high rates of speed. CVPD officers catch up with the truck and attempt to traffic stop Angulo who led them on a pursuit throughout east Chula Vista. Angulo lost control of the truck and collided with an unrelated vehicle near the 900 block of Rutgers. Angulo fled the truck and attempted to enter an occupied residence with a handgun, he was denied entry; he then turned back to face the officers who were attempting to take him into custody. He shouted to the officers that he had a gun and refused to follow orders from officers to surrender. Angulo and officers both exchanged fire, with Angulo firing at least one round from a pistol. Officers fired multiple rounds in response to the deadly threat Angulo presented. Angulo was shot by officers during the incident and despite live saving measures, he later was pronounced deceased at the scene. This information is very preliminary, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. We will provide further information in a subsequent advisory when it becomes available. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. This year 307 fallen heroes are being memorialized on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. Due to COVID-19 the events did not take place this year as planned. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the friends and families of our fallen heroes.
