2 июля 1994 года Русская Православная Церковь за границей причислила Иоанна, архиепископа Шанхайского и Сан-Францисского, дивного угодника Божия XX столетия к лику святых. В лике Вселенских святых он общецерковно прославлен Архиерейским Собором Русской Православной Церкви 24 июня 2008 года Неисчислимы и дары святости у святителя Иоанна: он был воистинну ангел Божий в человеческом образе. Своим терпением и смирением, своими подвигами поста, бодрствования и непрестанной молитвы... он уподоблялся великим подвижникам и пустынникам. Он был величайшим прозорливцем и чудотворцем при жизни и по смерти. Он уподоблялся святителю Николаю своим милосердием, своей особой любовью и заботой о детях и сиротах, и бесстрашным ходатайством о бедствующих людях перед сильными мирами сего. Он был строителем храмов и приютов, воспитателем юношества, подвергался скорбям и гонениям от единоверцев, был ревностным столпом Православия и печальником земли русской. Dear parishioners and friends of Christ the Saviour, As many of you may already be aware, the public health authorities in the Bay Area have issued an order that essentially calls upon us all to remain home for the time being and only to leave when absolutely necessary. This order applies to places of worship as well. Our Hierarch Archbishop Benjamin of San Francisco has written a letter to all OCA parishes in the Bay area instructing us to close our churches. I quote "We t...ake this action with considerable regret but must keep in mind the health both physical and spiritual of the clergy and faithful. We have no doubt that disease cannot be spread by Holy Communion, but it can be spread, in this case, simply by proximity and endanger everyone present in the church." This is a time for us to send more time in prayer that God protect us and all our loved ones. That He help the scientists working on the vaccine and that this situation is over soon. Here is the prayer the was sent by Archbishop Benjamin for us to pray: "O God Almighty, Lord of heaven and earth, and of all creation visible and invisible, in your ineffable goodness, look down upon us, your people. Be our helper and defender in this day of affliction. You know our weakness. You hear our cry in repentance and contrition of heart. O Lord who loves mankind, deliver us from the impending threat of the Corona Virus. Send thine angel to watch over us and protect us. Grant health and recovery to those suffering from this virus. Guide the hands of physicians and preserve those who are healthy. Enable us to continue to serve our suffering brothers and sisters in peace that together we may glorify thy most honorable and majestic name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages, Amen." Please add this prayer to your daily prayers. I will send a Slavonic version soon. I also strongly recommend two psalms: 90 and 84. (These are 91 and 85 in the English Bible.) So, let us keep up our spirits with prayer and reading the Holy Scriptures and any other spiritual book, and listening to services from Russia if you are able to.
