Football fans may have to come up with a new game plan for this year’s Super Bowl festivities, but the California Highway Patrol (CHP) still reminds everyone to put safety first. Californians should stay close to home and limit essential travel. If you must travel, the CHP wants to remind you of some important traffic safety tips to help you arrive safely: drive sober, avoid distractions, always buckle up and leave plenty of time to get to your destination. Regardless of weather conditions, many crashes result from driving too fast: SLOW DOWN! It’s a simple matter of physics that your vehicle can’t stop as fast or turn as accurately on wet, snowy or icy pavement. Also, expect the possibility of decreased visibility in foggy, rainy or snowy conditions. If you’re driving in fog, rain or snow, keep headlights on low beam, don’t stop on the roadway (except in emergency), move away from stalled or disabled vehicles and... watch for CHP vehicles which may be escorting and guiding traffic through inclement weather. If you’re uncomfortable or nervous about the conditions, consider exiting the roadway and finding someplace safe to wait for better weather and a better opportunity. Check roadway conditions for incidents and closures by calling: 800-427-7623

With California advising residents to stay home as much as possible, avoid gatherings and not travel significant distances to reverse the unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases, New Year’s Eve 2020 may look noticeably different then years past. One thing that will look familiar: The CHP will be our removing impaired drivers from the road and assisting those in need. To encourage safe travel for those who are on the road, the CHP will enact a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP...) starting today at 6:01 p.m. continuing through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Don’t forget to designate a sober driver !!! #californiahighwaypatrol #chp#maximumenforcementperiod #goodbye2020 #safety #service #security California Highway Patrol CHP Antelope Valley CHP - West Los Angeles CHP West Valley CHP - Baldwin Park CHP - Santa Fe Springs CHP - East Los Angeles CHP - Newhall CHP Altadena CHP Central Los Angeles CHP - South Los Angeles

Impact Teen Drivers Traffic collisions are the Number 1 killer of teenagers in America. Nationally, about 5,000 teens will die in automobile collisions each year. About 10 percent of those deaths are in California alone. Beginning to drive a vehicle is an important step in a young persons life, and the CHP has several programs designed to educate new drivers about their responsibilities behind the wheel. ... Please contact your local CHP Area office for any future classes. #officeoftrafficsafety #teendriversafetyweek #passengersafety #teen #driver #safety #week #california #highway #patrol #californiahighwaypatrol #impactteendrivers

Thank you Officer R.Manzano for your exemplary efforts while assigned to Southern Division as a Recruitment Officer. It is estimated you have mentored approximately 15,000 applicants through the hiring process. You will be greatly missed and we wish the best of luck on your future endeavors. First photo: Chief Garrett handing Officer Manzano a Division Chief’s Commendation. Second photo: His gifts. Meet Bennet and Chief Omar Watson. Bennet is 8 years old and son of Sgt. Saunders. Bennet was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has had three open heart surgeries and numerous other heart surgeries. Border Division Chief Watson had to have an aortic valve replaced with a cow valve, due to a diagnoses called aortic insufficiency. Bennet found out Chief Watson had surgery and noticed they both had matching scars. Sgt. Saunders sent Chief Watson a video of Bennet welcoming him to the Zipper Club. Chief Watson was so inspired by his bravery and his own open heart surgery story, that he had to take a photo with Bennet. #zipperclub #zipperclubmember #chp #californiahighwaypatrol @californiahighwaypatrol

The CHP is gearing up to increase motorcycle safety awareness in California. A new federal grant will allow the CHP to increase motorcycle safety activities and... reduce the number of motorcycle-involved crashes and victims. The safety campaigns will promote the use of helmets for all riders and raise motorists’ awareness of sharing the road with motorcyclists. The campaigns will also focus on the most dangerous traffic violations, including speeding, improper turning, and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. https://bit.ly/36JAglB
