On 12-21-2020, at approximately 3:10 pm, the California Highway Patrol, Grass Valley Area Office, received a call of a vehicle parked within the Rough and Ready Highway Park and Ride which was smoking, and the driver was behaving erratically. Officers responded to the scene and located a parked Chevrolet Camaro, with a solo occupant. The occupant was behaving erratically and appeared to be in distress. He refused to roll down the windows or unlock the doors. Officers obser...ved two garden hoses sealed onto the Camaro's exhaust pipes, which were fed through the rear hatch, and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Officers quickly formed the opinion that the occupant was attempting to intentionally harm himself. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Officers broke the passenger side window, removed the subject from the vehicle, and moved him into fresh air. Paramedics arrived on scene and began providing medical assistance. The occupant was transported to the Mental Health Crisis Intervention Unit, located at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and is expected to survive. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please call the Nevada County Crisis Line at 530-265-5811 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. The CHP is launching a new education and enforcement campaign to reduce the number of crashes caused by impaired drivers in California. In 2018, there were 566... deaths and 11,298 injuries associated with DUI crashes within the CHP’s jurisdiction. Each one of these injuries and deaths represents a preventable tragedy and a continued need to focus efforts on reducing impaired driving. The Safer Highways Statewide grant provides the CHP with funding to conduct additional DUI saturation patrols, DUI checkpoints, and traffic safety education efforts throughout the state. The CHP will also participate in the NHTSA Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. For more info about the new grant please visit: http://chp.click/shs

Here's a flashback post, but one not to ignore. Here is an example of an unsecured load in violation of Nevada County Ordinance G-IV 8.5 which states: 1. It shall be an infraction for any vehicle loaded with garbage, cans, bottles, waste papers, ashes, refuse, trash, or rubbish, or any other noisesome, nauseous or offensive matter being transported to a dump site for disposal to arrive at and/or enter a disposal site unless the load is covered or tied down in a manner which... will prevent the load or any part of the load from spilling or falling from the vehicle. Loads which by sheer weight and placement cannot fall out shall be exempt from the covering and tying requirement. Loads of brush may be tied down in lieu of complete covering. Upon conviction thereof there shall be a mandatory fine imposed as follows: a. For a first violation, a fine of one hundred, ($100) dollars. b. For a second violation of the same Code Section within a twelve (12) month period, a fine of two hundred, ($200) dollars. c. For a third or subsequent violation of the same Code Section within a twelve (12) month period, a fine of five hundred, ($500) dollars. Don't make a trip to the dump cost you a point and a fine!!
