A DUI crash or arrest is preventable. Designate a sober driver, use public transportation, call a taxi, use a rideshare company, or stay where you are for the night. A DUI could cost you your license, freedom, life, or the life of another. @NHTSA @CHPCHICO

Seat Belt Reminder and Child Passenger Restraint Information Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and your passengers in a crash. Along with buckling up yourself and other passengers who no longer require additional restraint systems, it is important to make sure the young ones are buckled up safely and properly as well. Safe Kids Worldwide has provided a resource that can answer most questions and they provide virtual check-ups. Texting and driving just don’t mix. Motorists need to devote 100 percent of their attention to the task at hand safely operating their vehicle on the roadway.

Today, the Chico Area honors State Traffic Officer Williams R. McDaniel. On October 6, 1934, Officer William R. McDaniel, 36, was shot and killed in northern Butte County by an ex-convict while he was investigating the scene of a wrecked vehicle which had earlier been driven and abandoned by the killer. Officer McDaniel had intended to impound the car and was accompanied by a garage mechanic, Kenneth Davis, 29, when both were accosted by the ex-convict. Davis was shot and killed instantly. Officer McDaniel returned fire, wounding the assailant, but was himself fatally shot. The killer of the pair fled, but was later shot and killed by a sheriff's posse.
