Early this morning two CHP Newhall officers stopped a vehicle on I-5 near Templin Highway for a suspected impaired driver. Upon their approach, they smelled an overwhelming odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. Upon further investigation both the driver and passenger were arrested for transportation of over 100lbs of cannabis!

Today , the Newhall Special Enforcement Unit, started bright and early. During their shift, they issued 37 tickets, impounded 6 vehicles from unlicensed drivers, including one big rig which also was not registered and did not have insurance. Also they recovered 1 stolen vehicle, and discovered a loaded firearm during a separate traffic stop. Great job, guys!!!!

It only takes the slightest bit of inattention to start a chain reaction that ends up like this. This big rig ended up across all lanes on SR-138 that will caused a SIGALERT that's scheduled to last until noon. Please keep your eyes and attention on the road ahead.

Drivers should remember that all vehicles being towed are subject to the rules and regulations of the California Vehicle Code. In this case, the trailer was missing its license plate had broken lights. Brake lights and turn signals are important to the vehicles traveling behind any towed vehicle. In addition, always make sure the objects in/on your trailer are secured so they won't fall out onto the roadway while in transit. This driver was given a fix it ticket and will be making the corrections.

Newhall CHP officers were out on San Francisquito Canyon Road this morning during the commute hours looking for unsafe drivers. In 5 hours they wrote a total of 43 citations, one of which was 111 miles per hour. They wrote 2 citations for suspended drivers license and they impound one of those vehicles.

If anyone was watching Sierra Highway yesterday, we had officers out there from 4am to 8am. They issued 47 citations for speeding, 2 drivers were cited for driving without a license and 1 vehicle was impounded due to a DUI suspension. Don't be a Roadrunner!!!!
