Come join the CHP Family! Interested or have a background in commercial vehicles? The examination cycle for Motor Carrier Specialist (MCS) has now opened. A Motor Carrier Specialist plays a vital role within our commercial section at the California Highway Patrol. An MCS is assigned to work all over California and travel to the facilities where commercial vehicles are based. There they check for proper vehicle maintenance and verify driver testing for controlled substances an...d alcohol as well as checking carriers for hazardous materials transportation requirements. Carrier Specialists make recommendations to motor carriers regarding improvement in procedures and practices. They will regularly perform inspections and evaluations of school buses, public paratransit vehicles, and various commercial vehicles such as farm labor vehicles, buses, trucks, truck-tractors, pull-trailers, and semi-trailers. The MCS is crucial in helping maintain our California roadways safe from dangerous and unkept commercial vehicles. All those interested have until the final filing date of October 22nd to apply for the examination process. A quick reminder on brake hose violations.

08-23-2020 begins the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Brake Safety Week. Enforcement officials will inspect commercial motor vehicles throughout the week and vehicles found to have critical out-of-service brake violations, or other critical vehicle out-of-service inspection item violations, will be restricted from traveling until those violations are corrected. Vehicles that pass eligible inspections may receive a passed-inspection CVSA decal. Checking brake syste...m components is always part of the roadside inspection process; however, inspectors will be paying special attention to brake hoses/tubing during this year’s Brake Safety Week to highlight the importance of those components to vehicle mechanical fitness and safety. Brake Safety Week is part of law enforcement’s effort to reduce brake-related crashes by conducting roadside inspections and identifying and removing unsafe commercial motor vehicles from roadways. Consider yourself lucky! While CVIS Sanchez was conducting an inspection this morning he came across this furry little guy. The driver had no idea there was an unauthorized passenger with him. Animal control came to retrieve the kitten and take it to the local veterinarian. When you have 9 lives I guess its ok to live life on the edge.
