COVID-19 has greatly complicated our national statistics on injury and disease. With people leaving home less often, accident rates are sharply down. A report from the University of California Davis found that for the 30 day period following the Stay-at-Home order: California accident rates dropped by roughly 50%, decreasing from roughly 400-1,000 accidents per day to 200-500 reported automobile accidents daily. Hospitals in Northern California reported a 40% decrease in ...automobile-related trauma-injuries. Hospitals also reported a 46% drop in pedestrian and cyclist, automobile-related injuries, as well as a 38% reduction in motorcycle-related injuries. This decrease in auto accidents saved the state an estimated $40 million per day during the Stay-at-Home order. See more
