According to CDC, traditional Halloween activities are fun, but some can increase the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19. Here’s how you can make trick-ortreating safer. Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters. Give out treats outdoors, if possible. Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take.... Wash hands before handing treats. Wear a mask. Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you. See more

Meet Dr. Lyra Ng, pediatrician at our Gellert clinic in Daly City. Her patients call her "JieJie" or 'big sister" because she truly connects with them. I identify with the kids and their families who come here for care. Many times, we share a common experience. As we get to know each other, I notice that some kids are self-aware, and some are immersed in the social media or gamer world. Every patient is unique. I try to pinpoint their priorities and meet them there, and this is particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic. My system at an in person visit: Break the ice with a sticker, if age appropriate. Talk first. Set up a social agreement for healthy behaviors. Touch last. Give props to everyoneparents included. Another sticker to close the deal.

October is Healthy Lung Month. Here are some fun facts about lungs: 1They take in a lot of air - During a normal day we breath nearly 25,000 times according to the National Institutes of Health. 2Animals' lungs are different - Most animals with spines are called vertebrates and they usually have not one, but two lungs. 3You can get by with only one - Having only one won't stop you from living a pretty normal life. 4They're different sizes - Because of your heart, the ...right lung is larger than the left lung. 5They float - Human lungs have that rare quality of being the only organs that can float on water. Taking care of your lungs should be all year round! The best way to know if your lungs are functioning properly is to check in with your doctor. Discuss any shortness of breath and be honest about any symptoms. Pretending that symptoms don't exist won't make them go away. With a good bill of health and an action plan for better lung maintenance, you'll breathe easier in October and beyond.

Congratulations to Esther Chen and Philp Ko for being acknowledged as outstanding employees at Chinese Hospital.
