Community response to the recent attacks on Asian seniors. https://www.meetup.com/oakland-chinatown-safety-patrols/
Hey folks, we've been getting an amazing outpour of questions and inquiries about how to support Chinatown through these increased violent crimes against our se...niors and small businesses. If you or someone you know is interested in wanting to help, get involved or otherwise stay informed about community-based response efforts that is looking to address the systemic issues we're facing, please fill out this form and share with your friends! bit.ly/Iwant2help Otherwise we're encouraging out community to COME OUT TO CHINATOWN! All this weekend and whenever you can. Wear Yellow to show you're in support of Chinatown seniors and businesses and that you're there to help us keep each other safe. We believe that crime can be prevented with more presence on the streets and more eyes watching. In the meantime, while you're walking around with your friends, patron a Chinatown business or two, talk to the owners and other customers, or recreate at the parks. You can expect to hear from us in the next week or so with more direct actions you can take whether that's volunteering to walk a block, pick up trash, donate to different efforts and more! Please fill out the form and spread the word. Community Safety is more than just patrolling and watching out for each other, it's about making sure our communities have the resources they need to be healthy, happy and thrive. We're committed to this vision in the long term AND for right now, we know we need to take action. #WeKeepUsSafe #ChinatownLove Asian Health Services Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) Friends of Lincoln Square Park Good Good Eatz Oakland Asian Cultural Center Asian Immigrant Women Advocates (AIWA) Filipino Advocates for Justice Wa Sung Community Service Club Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach Aypal: Building API Community Power Buddhist Church of Oakland Chinese American Citizens Alliance, Oakland Lodge EBALDC Oakland Chinatown Lions Foundation CCED
February 3, 2021 Important Application Deadline for CGM "No Cost" Medal Applications Due before February 28, 2021 The Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project enters its fifth year with great anticipation for the ceremonial awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to over 3,000 Veterans who have applied and been confirmed for this honor. While the current health crisis has caused us to extend this valiant effort into 2021, a year more than we had planned, we have b...een vigilant volunteers and prudent stewards in developing our modified in-person presentation plan with our capable committee members and the help of many of you as our donor-supporter community. Yet, while the Project will continue to accept applications and information about veterans for its historical value as long as the website continues its current web presence, the decision has been made to discontinue the awarding of a no-cost Medal for applications received after February 28, 2021, 11:59:59PM EST. Applications received after that date may still be reviewed (and if approved) for the purpose of having a veteran’s name listed on the website, but the veteran and/or family must make their own arrangements to purchase their Chinese American WWII Congressional Gold Medal directly from the U.S. Mint. The mission of the Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project is to recognize, honor, and celebrate the military service of Chinese Americans who fought in World War II through advocacy, education and preservation and to ensure that the achievements and contributions of the greatest generation will never be forgotten. The Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project is a program of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A.), a 501(c)8, and the National Chinese American Citizens Alliance Community Involvement Fund (C.A.C.A. CIF), a 501(c)3. The C.A.C.A. was incorporated as a fraternal organization under the laws of the State of California, and the C.A.C.A. CIF was subsequently granted 501(c)(3) status as a tax-exempt public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Neither organization nor this project are affiliated with any government agency nor does it receive any government funds for use in meeting its objectives.
