Dylan Schwartz was #born on July 13, 2020. At the #hospital, Dylan appeared to be perfectly #healthy and was ready to go home until a pediatrician noticed there wasn’t a red reflex in Dylan’s right #eye. After further testing they discovered he was born with a #pediatric #cataract. Three in every ten thousand #newborns are affected by pediatric cataracts. Dylan recently underwent #surgery at 6 weeks old, and he will receive multiple other #treatments throughout his #childhoo...d. But Dylan isn’t letting his cataract bring him down! In fact, the Schwartz family is #selling eye patches on e-Bay to help raise awareness about pediatric vision loss. #DylanStrong eye patches can be purchased at https://www.ebay.com//DylanStrong-Custom-Eye/274438104191 You can also learn more about Dylan at his page, Dylan Strong! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9f6hQpK2as

When I was 15 years old, I started having serious migraines for a few weeks and didn’t tell anybody because I thought they were just headaches. Eventually the headaches became unbearable so I saw a doctor and a neurologist who referred me to a pediatric ophthalmologist. There, I learned I had a rare eye disease called Keratoconus and had to get a corneal transplant in both of my eyes. I never would have thought there was something so serious going on and that I was at risk o...f losing my vision forever. During my recovery, I had to wear patches on both my eyes and kept up with my classes by having someone read notes to me so I could memorize them. I was terrified that something would go wrong and I’d lose my vision for good. Today, I’m a college graduate and filmmaker. As a visual artist, my eyes mean everything to me. S.G. Because COVID-19 is such a new illness, there are questions about it that we do not know the answers to. We do know that many children who are infected with the virus may not develop or only develop mild symptoms of COVID-19.Overall, most kids who develop COVID-19 do well. However, we still do not know enough about the illness to be able to predict the impact it will have on them long-term. . . . #COVID19 #children #Covidandkids #Prevention #socialdistancing #handwashing #autoimmune #coronavirus #eyedisease

Expert organizations have created guidance for parents to help understand the facts uncovered in scientific research. The World Health Organization's 2019 guidelines suggest no screen time before age 1, and very limited screen time for children for several years after that. Some tips to keep your child’s (and your) eyes safe while using screens include: Use good posture when using a screen. Poor posture can contribute to muscle tightness and headaches associated with eye stra...in. Encourage your child to hold digital media farther away: 18 to 24 inches is ideal. Remind them to blink when watching a screen. Glasses and face masks aren’t the best of friends, so here are some tips to help keep your glasses from fogging up. 1. Use paper tape across the bridge of the nose to create a seal on the mask - stick the tape to a piece of cloth first if it is too sticky so it makes peeling off your skin easier 2. Rinse your glasses in soapy water (like gentle dish soap) and allow to air dry - this will have an anti-fog effect on the surface of the lens 3. Put the top of the mask high on t...he bridge of the nose so it is under the glasses 4. Place a small piece of tissue under the top of the mask on the nose to absorb excess moisture What are some techniques you use to keep your glasses fog free? #TipTuesday #Fog #Glasses #TipsandTricks #Vision #Mask #WearAMask #FoggyGlasses #Hacks #GlassesHacks
