Welcome to Walkabout Wednesday. It's often hard to follow where past players end up post graduation, so today we take a look back and get to know one of recent Alumni.

Great news for the club... The lovable long haired lock Chance Horvath was in the mix for a draft pick for the Major League Rugby competition earlier this month. The MLR is the new premier division Rugby here in the US, so it's always great when one of the boys gets the opportunity to go on to higher honors. Here's to further success at the club. As always, its a great day to be a Wildcat. https://www.goffrugbyreport.com//now-post-draft-rush-starts

Like Rome, and every other great sporting program around the world, the Chico State Men’s Rugby program has fallen. It is with great sadness that we announce due to a virus outside our control, the club has been shut down effective immediately. For the seniors that trained on their field for the last time, it was a truly devastating sight to see their reaction hearing the news mid-way through the session only weeks before graduation. ... To our Alumni, Families, Friends and Supporters, we are only the club we are because of you, and we look forward to your support next year, and for seasons to come. See you all in the Fall of 2020. Great day to be a Wildcat.

The boys made short work of a long day beating Stanford at Stanford 36-10 today. It was apparent early that the man with the whistle was going to play a large role in the days proceedings, and composure was going to be key. The Chico State scrum crushed Stanford’s and that set a great attacking platform for our backs. The score could have been anything today but the calls were wild and many. ... At one stage on the attack, and only five meters out from the line, Chico State were called off-side when they had the ball and were forced to hand over possession. With calls like that it was hard to maintain continuity or keep field position. In another part of the game a Chico State player received a yellow card for telling his Captain, Stanford were soft defensively. You just can’t make this stuff up... The second team took the forfeit win (28-0) ten minutes before their kick off. A few of the Chico State boys went over to the dark side so a game could be played. With no push scrums and only twenty minutes each way, it made the long drive down even longer. Full credit to the second team boys who just wanted to play, and with that attitude it’s little wonder they sit highest on the competition ladder. We have a bye next weekend, but play UNR in Reno, March 14th. 1st team at 11am, 2nd team at 1pm. Great day to be a Wildcat.!

Sunshine bathed the Chico State Rugby field today, and the first team shone by getting back in the winners circle beating Sacramento State 42-14. Sac State and some pundits thought they had a real chance after our loss to Fresno State, but they were facing a fired-up game day 23. The game started as a tussle, and was scoreless for the first fifteen minutes, until the boys scored off some great interplay. Chico State 7-0.... Two quick penalty goals took Chico State to 13-0 and Sac State started to crack. One more try and a conversion had Chico State go into the half 20-0 up. Chico State scored quickly after the break. 25-0. Sac State then pounced on a Chico State error scoring and converting. Chico State 25-7. One more try saw Chico State push the boat out to a commanding lead, 30-7. But Sac State gathered a wayward kick and ran it back for a converted try. Chico State 30-14. Not finished, Chico State scored again 35-14. A "penalty try" then put the final nail in Sac State's coffin with another seven pointer. Chico State 42 14. But the story of the day is yet again the 2nd team. They continue their winning ways now going 4 0. Even with Sac State stacking their 2nd team with 1st team players, the boys played the game plan to a tee, and for the full 80 minutes. Although at times it was a sloppy affair, the boys soundly beat Sac State 24-0 to secure a bonus point victory. Next up: STANFORD @ STANFORD. Saturday February 29th. 1st team at 1pm, 2nd team at 3pm. Join us! It’s going to be a cracker! As Always, Great day to be a Wildcat
