In the last year or so, the online seller's site called Etsy started doing TV commercials. I've had a shop for 5 years that has done a modest business partly due to my neglect, partly due to the specialty nature of my merchandise and sometimes high price points for art to wear. This summer I made 2 very surprising sales that Etsy informed me came from the ads. One came all the way from Belgium, probably from CNN or MSNBC international viewers. Wow, I says to myself, I'd bett...er clean up my act! So for the last 2 weeks I've been sweeping, dusting, washing the windows, and generally spiffing up my shop, rearranging and adding new stuff. It's not all done but it is ready for viewing and ordering. Free domestic shipping! So, I invite you to drop by, view my goodies, say hello, and maybe find something you might like to order. After all, Christmas is just around the corner and as long as the creek don't rise and the asteroid don't wipe us out you might need some cool, original Chappell Rose Holt gifts! https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChappellHoltArt/neu

I'm learning how to make simple videos, I made this one last of Dave reading his poetry.

Hey there, Dudes & Dudettes, by request I have made a new instructional video on how to make face masks. It is in two parts cuz the original was too long for my Youtube, but if you follow this link to Part One Part Two is right there. This is my new channel so it is kind of under developed, I will begin to make it better as I learn how. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV4dum-5RBQjgaciBFN-ZLw/

I've had some recent inquiries about the availability of my art work. I'm now offering any image as a digital download. If you're interested you can contact me ...through the website, here is the link to my art page. Feel free to explore the other pages, too, for Dave Holt's poetry, my clothing, and our music. We try to keep it fun and interesting for your enjoyment.

The lost has been found!!! One of my antique dealer friends has generously taken some of my merchandise to sell at shows. I knew she had this one but she insisted she did not. She recently found it as I knew she would, never worried about it, stuff usually shakes down with a bit of time. It is a sling bag made from a 100 year old Odd Fellows regalia collar. The front is pink silk velvet embroidered with silver coil, silver lace, and silver coil fringe. The strap is green silk velvet edged with silver braid. The back is from a beautiful vintage Japanese obi, and the silk ribbon rosette I embellished with more silver lace and a vintage brooch. Way fun, very Boho. PM me for purchasing details.

Hi, Y'all, I seem to have been neglecting my art page. Well if you follow me on my Chappell Holt profile you know I've been making face masks now for the last 3 months, hundreds of them. It kinda shorted my time to do other things such as finish my Kimono Pastiche collection. I have the most glorious vintage Japanese kimono silks hanging all around my studio waiting to be made. I did get 6 large and 2 mediums done before the virus grounded us all. We actually have a gig, yes ...live music!, tonight in Martinez at Roxx on Main, our first since February. So I thought I would again post something I made a while back that hasn't sold yet. Sometimes a thing just screams out that it wants to be made. All of the components were there and perfectly harmonized. The sea foam green peau de soie, the gorgeous vintage brown weave Japanese obi, the Chinese decorative buckle all done up in a design inspired by a 1920's illustration. It was kind of crazy to make it without a known client, but like a painting that wants to be done, or a song that wants to be written and sung, I made it in hopes she would come along. Enjoy!

Hi, Everybody, hope you're happily hunkered down and being creative. I, however, currently have no time until the mask order is completed, I've made a couple of hundred and have more to go for the symphony. So, I'm showing you a handbag I made for myself a few years ago. It is a beautiful wine colored velveteen with a vintage brass frame. The beading was inspired by some vintage design I found, can't remember what, and is embellished with vintage brass and rhinestone earring bits.

The strangest thing has happened with my sewing business. I have morphed from an artist to sewing rectangles for face masks. It happened quite by accident but I am very grateful for the work. Thanks to a friend I have been commissioned to make several hundred music theme masks for the California Symphony. I have also made a couple of hundred others for a local credit union and many individual orders. I have bought some very cool music prints for our musician's community, but... I cannot offer them for sale until I finish the symphony job. As soon as I can I will post pictures you can choose from. I see all kinds of prices, some reasonable, some gouging. Mine are reasonable. It is very strange who is benefiting from this weird virus, trying to buy elastic and fabric, all on line, can be a real challenge. Joann Fabric's website said they have sold materials for more than 50 million masks. Some of the Etsy vendors I have been buying from can barely keep up with orders. I'll show you some of the masks I've made for the symphony and random ones I've made for individuals. Keep watching this space for updates. Stay safe and well.

We've been asked when we are going to do a live show on FB, we're not quite ready to pull that off, instead here is a live performance from several years ago at... Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood. This is Severin Browne's First Friday series. A bit of Bay Area Western Swing, Indian Maiden, with John Roy Zat on fiddle. Put on your dancin' cowboy boots! It has taken a couple of weeks to finally finish the video to the song Carlos A. Reyes and I recorded in March. I wrote this song in 1973 when my then partner a...nd I took a two month road trip from Sebastopol, CA to NYC and back. The route we took home went through the Cumberland Gap where we picked up a 14 year old hitch hiker. We saw strip mining and mountain top removal for the first time. This song is that boy's story. It is sung in a style appropriate for it, one person said it didn't sound like me, but that is because my jazz/blues voice of today does not work for this kind of song. I hope you'll watch. See more
