The Chaplaincy Institute wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We send best wishes for the holidays, for your health, and your happiness. May the spirit of giving continue into 2021! #HappyHolidays #HappyNewYear #TheChaplaincyInstitute #interfaith
The Chaplaincy Institute prides itself on uplifting interfaith religions and spiritualities. One of our community members Rachel Findley, shared her holiday memories of the holiday Yule in Iceland. "As celebrated in Iceland, Jól (pronounced Yule but with a weird vowel) is very far from the modern Wiccan Yule. I celebrated Jól in Iceland when my son lived there with his family.... The winter in Iceland is very dark. Occasional the sun makes a brief appearance around 3 PM, low in the South, but it’s often too cloudy to see it. Lights are strung around all the windows throughout the winter, late November through early February. The thirteen Jól lads arrive, one each night, starting Dec. 12. Children receive small gifts every night (if they have been good; perhaps a rotten potato if they’ve been bad. The jólasveinar are traditionally said to be the sons of the mountain-dwelling trolls Grýla and Leppalúði, and are often depicted with the Jólakötturinn or Yule Cat, a very frightening pet of a giantess who makes children scream. The Jól lads are also hungry and mischievous, each one with a particular kind of mischief: harass sheep, steal milk, steals pans to eat the crust, steals spoons to lick, steal leftovers from pots, steals food from bowls set down near beds, slams door, eats Skyr (sort of like yogurt), swipes sausages, peeps through the windows to find something to steal, follows the nose to find fried pancakes, steals meat, steals candles. Then the Yule Lads disappear, one each day, until January 6 when the Icelanders celebrate with elf bonfires, elf dances, family gatherings, fireworks, and driving out evil spirits from the houses." #TheChaplaincyInstitute #Interfaith #Yule #Multifaith #Multireligious

Today’s Monday Motivational Message is an inspiring quote from Langston Hughes a legendary social activist, poet, and leader during the Harlem Renaissance. This quote reminds us that it’s important not to give up on our dreams because they serves as a source of life and purpose whether we realize it or not.

Most faith traditions and spiritual orientations agree that the primary work of ministry and spiritual care-giving is freedom and opportunity for healing and wholeness for all people. This course will include readings, reflection, and discussion using some of the case studies from the texts. Pedagogy will be contemplative to include presentations from and/or dialog with partners, virtual immersion opportunities, in-class praxis using Zoom breakout rooms, and a writing project. To register, and for more information please contact [email protected] or 510-843-1422.
Greetings All! Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, and while most of us are still enjoying the memories of a Thanksgiving meal, today is a time of many challenges and environmental, social, and medical upheaval. The Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the inequalities and the suffering of our world. ChI graduates are trained to help because they are trained to do things.... Help us train them to heal and transform the world. A gift of $120 today on Giving Tuesday provides support for ChI as we welcome an unprecedented influx of new chaplains and spiritual directors into our programs in the coming months. Help us here at ChaplaincyInstitute.org/giving. You can make a profound difference in the lives of those who need help most. It is our Thanksgiving prayer that you will help. Peace today, Rev. Ineda P. Adesanya, M.A., M.Div., DASD President and CEO | Board of Directors

Taking care of the mind is equally as important as taking care of the body. Making time in your schedule for self care can make a tremendous difference in the way your mind views daily tasks. Give your brain a few minutes of peace and calmness each day. Mental health can also affect us and those we love in profound ways. If you or someone you know needs help, know that you deserve that support. We encourage you to reach out to NAMI.org at 800-950-NAMI or text the word NAMI to 741741.
Start your Monday knowing that what you do today will play a big part of your near and/or far future. Make decisions that are for your best wellbeing. Happy Monday from The Chaplaincy Institute! #chaplaincyinstitute #mondaymotivation
