= About Our Chan Mediation Training = Our teacher, Master YongHua, started teaching Chan Meditation in 2005 as per his Master’s instruction. He holds weekly Chan Mediation classes to the public at no cost in the spirit of repaying his teacher’s kindness and to serve the community. In his own words, I learned and benefited so much from my Master, Venerable Master XuanHua (), who knew I became a monk to only learn all his secrets of Chan Meditation. (Even though he knew I b...ecame monk for purely selfish reasons) he still compassionately accepted me and taught me. Thus, as a result, for the past eleven years, his weekly Chan meditation session goes on without fail, even if the class is not well-attended. As long as there’s one student, I will teach, he says. Master’s Chan teaching originates from Wei Yang Chan Mediation school in China. He chooses to encourage his students to train to sit in the Full-Lotus posture. It’s an expedient to help students improve quickly despite knowing its challenging for many people. We have shown to our students that with proper training, anyone can eventually get into that posture which enables us to more effectively develop concentration power and improve more quickly. Traditionally this training is for people who have a strong affinity and blessings with Mahayana Buddhism (sharp roots) in order to attain Enlightenment. Contrary to most current meditation teachings (where they emphasize experiencing good states and being comfortable) Master preaches hard-work, patience, endurance and making sacrifices. He also urges us to practice giving rigorously and indiscriminately, which is known as "planting blessings" in Mahayana Buddhism. Planting blessings is a crucial component in attaining any spiritual improvement. Therefore, many of his students learn and improve quickly from beginner to expert level. They find themselves more productive and less stressed out at work. They are healthier, more patient and their loved ones also see the transformation in them. Most of them reported that they feel drastically calmer and less afflicted in their daily lives. Wei Mountain Temple will provide more space for us to continue our weekly Chan Mediation classes and it will also give us the space to offer a children’s mediation class weekly.
