There are many questions about which types of trees are more environmentally friendly. The Nature Conservancy in California made a list and checked it twice.

Net emissions are expected to be 6.4 percent lower after taking into account the unusually extreme forest fires that swept the West Coast and Rocky Mountains earlier this year, pumping carbon dioxide and other pollution into the air and offsetting much of the drop in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

There are a lot of ways to size up buildings, whether by measuring their height, comparing styles of architecture or dissecting their histories. But in the era of climate change, more and more emphasis is being placed on a building's "green" credentials, as environmental impact leads decisions around design, construction and operations.
