WHY "DIETS" FAIL... First remember that the word "diet" is one of the many English words that has several meanings. Even though it's a Noun meaning 'a selection of food', more often than not it's thought of as a verb meaning 'eat sparingly, selectively, abstain, fast'. While the noun sounds like a great way to live a healthy and balanced life... abstaining, fasting or limiting is often what gets us into trouble in the long run.... We get asked a lot why we offer a habit based nutrition program. Many clients come in wanting (even sometimes demanding) a meal plan, off limit food list, calorie/macro prescription, etc. But we operate with our client's long term success as a priority, so focusing on the underlying habits that drive our daily activities offer FAR more long term benefits than eating 800 calories for a few weeks to drop a couple pounds, only to gain it back and then some. By focusing on building good habits (rather than depriving you of things you love) we systematically drive out the bad habits that aren't serving you. All while focusing on the positive... feeling great and enjoying the process. It's easier, more fun and more successful in the long run! 2021 New Year Lifestyle & Nutrition Kickstart!!! Open to Members and non-members as well 2020 really hit a lot of us where it hurt! Our physical, mental and emotional heath all suffered! But it's a new year and we have renewed hope so it's a perfect time to regain control of your lifestyle and nutrition. ... Here are the details: What is the Kickstart? It's a habit based Program designed to get you on the road to wellness. When does is start? Monday February 8th! What does it involve? This program involves "stacking" nutrition and lifestyle habits week by week for 6 weeks. We start with one basic habit and stack additional habits each week. You'll get daily education and touch points throughout. The final week will likely be the hardest for most, but we promise this program is THE easiest thing to follow! We've chosen habits that almost everyone needs and that you can continue to build into your daily life after the 6 weeks. Once you've made it through 6 weeks, you'll be ready to up the difficulty and can move into an ongoing Nutrition program to reach your health goals. WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER If you don’t love to cook (or don’t know how), the idea of prepping and batch cooking food for the week can be very daunting. What should you cook, how should you cook it, is it the right food, etc? ... While I’m not one to tell people to rush out and buy gadgets they don’t really need (even though I do it all the time ), having the right tool can make things insanely easy! In this example, it’s an all in one cooker (Ninja Foodi). Why does this make such a difference? With this one tool and just a few minutes of prep time, I was able to make two hearty, healthy and delicious meals for the week. BBQ Pulled Chicken and Beef Stew. More proof that good habits are always necessary to get results. It could have been easier to run out and grab food to go... but I had planned ahead, had everything on hand and used my time wisely. TIME FOR ACTION! It's the last day of 2020 and I think we're all breathing a sigh of relief! This year has left a lot of us feeling like our feet were stuck in cement. Tired from the Holidays? No food in the house? Not in the mood to cook? Bored with the same old thing? Normally any (or all) of the above would be a perfect excuse to either skip a meal OR make a less than ideal choice. Enter... the Smoothie Bowl!! Grab your favorite protein powder, mix with a small amount of almond, coconut or regular milk (coconut cream makes it even richer and adds a healthy fat) to desired consistency then top with whatever you’ve got! ... For this one, I chose Coffee flavored plant based protein, mixed with a combo of coconut cream (about a tbsp) and 1/4 cup of almond milk and 1/2 a banana. Topped with the other 1/2 banana, some grapes and blueberries, plus sunflower and hemp seeds. Delicious and different! Strength in Numbers... Let's get real, at this point in this particular year, I think many of us have had just about enough "alone time"! Most of us never thought we'd yearn for a day when we could simply hug someone, or shake a hand, or even just give a 'high five'. Things we never thought we'd be unable to do. We now find ourselves in a place of truly needing that 'strength' found in numbers, yet we still have to be cautious. That's one of the greatest things about being a...ble to continue to come to the gym... you get a solid dose of togetherness, even when socially distanced! It also helps knowing your fellow class mates are looking forward to seeing you and relying on your company to help motivate them. Our members have told us throughout this entire year that the hour they know they'll spend at the gym, with their gym family, is part of what has helped them stay sane, avoid increased weight gain and pandemic lethargy. To roughly quote them... it's what has helped them ‘keep it together’. Why? Because it's not just physical strength we need these days. Mental and emotional strength are just as important and time with like minded friends helps flex that muscle. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Diana. Don't let those devil horns fool you, Diana is as sweet as they come! She's in the mental health field, helping others find their mental and emotional balance, and she comes to us to keep HER mental AND physical health in check. She's a new mama to the most adorable little dude you've ever seen and she impressed everyone at the gym by setting a goal right at the beginning to workout throughout her entire pregnancy... not only did meet that goal..., she did it during a freaking pandemic! Coming to class to get her workout in is her happy place... and gracing us with her sparkling personality and infectious smile makes it OUR happy place every time she comes. Be like Diana.
