Turning off the open sign, closing the door and turning out the lights for the last time at 1451 El Camino, our home for 33 years. Wednesday Jan 6th we reopen two blocks south, at 1680 El Camino at Roosevelt!

The latest COVID-19 restrictions and what the new limits mean to Chain Reaction- The occupancy rating is NOT something most businesses have a handle on. For our store (Chain Reaction Bicycles), nobody has ever given us that information. Restaurants are required to have it posted. So I looked it up; for retail max load is 60 sq ft per person. This is total floor space not just aisles, and the number allowed is for customers only; employees do not count. So our 4200 sq ft of ...retail floor allows a normal limit of 70. At 20% just 14. However that’s never been exceeded since March as we’ve not allowed people to come into the store without a salesperson available, and we’ve never had more than 7 salespeople. The only change for us will be limiting groups of people allowed inside to no more than 2 unless the store is almost literally empty. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as we go along, always with the goal of increasing safety. There are no words. (Added later- We closed at 4pm today, and hopefully will reopen, in a normal, boring fashion, at 11am Wednesday (6/3) morning. We've taken the precaution of moving valuable merchandise elsewhere, and brought home "the" computer (file server with the important stuff). We live in interesting times. When you have a choice, one which makes the world a tiny bit better place, the other a tiny bit worse, try to always choose the better. Trying to find hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol? We have a couple sources we're sharing below. We're in it for the long haul, and that means taking every reasonable precaution to protect both our staff and customers. So starting Friday April 2nd, you must be wearing a mask or scarf to enter our store. If we can see a nose or mouth, please stay outside and we will assist you as best possible. We’ve seen a large number of people riding without lights in the past few weeks. We attribute this to people bringing bikes out after not riding for a while and they don’t know about daylight running lights.
