Chabad of Richmond 09.11.2020

True joy is achieved by finding the good and the cause for joy in everything. -The Baal Shem Tov Tonight we begin the week-long holiday of Sukkot. Sukkot is k...nown as the holiday of joy, due to the many joyful events that took place over the holiday when the temple stood. Nowadays, it is our mission to make the holiday joyous and to take the joy and let it permeate the rest of our year by finding reasons to be joyful in the everyday. Mitzvah of this holiday is to eat in the sukkah and to shake the Lulav and Etrog. On Sunday will be socially distanced services at 10:30am followed by kiddush at 12pm. Lulav and Etrog shaking All Day - come at a convenient time for you! Please light Shabbat and holiday candles tonight at 6:32pm and tomorrow AFTER 7:27pm. Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach

Yom Kippur begins in just a few hours. We would usually be encouraging you all to come to services on this Holy day. However due to circumstances beyond our control, Chabad of Richmond will NOT be having traditional Yom Kippur services this year - but rest assured that Yom Kippur is still happening in your home and in your heart. The most important mitzvah of the day is to fast - yes, it is more important than attending services!... Please remember that Judaism is not an all or nothing religion and G-d values & cherishes each & every Mitzvah. Any effort you make to be a better person & more inspired Jew is treasured and will make the world shine a little brighter. May we all be blessed & sealed for a happy, healthy & sweet New Year! Candle lighting is at 6:40pm tonight.

Tonight & tomorrow is Tisha B’Av, the 9th day of the month of Av, is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, on which we fast and pray. It is the culmination of the Three Weeks, a period of time during which we mark the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. With prayers for the coming of Moshiach when we will merit the rebuilding of the third Holy Temple and this day of fasting will become a day of feasting. In Richmond, Fast Begins: Wednesday July 29 at 8:21 PM Fast Ends: Thursday July 30 at 8:49 PM
