We held a joyous occasion today, honoring the late Esther Negrete Padilla with a Memorial Highway Naming Dedication, held at #Fresno City Hall. Esther was a lea...der of many accomplishments, including her election as the first Latina (in 1991) to the Fresno City Council. Fresno Councilmember Esmeralda Soria had the idea for this memorial, and I was humbled and proud to author #ACR139 to do so. During Esther’s term on the council, she provided the swing vote for construction of Highways 168 and 180. She was a real trailblazer and inspired others, including myself, to give back to their communities and dedicate themselves to public service. Today’s event also was made possible by Miguel Arias, Fresno City Council District 3, Councilmember Luis Chavez, Councilmember Nelson Esparza, Centro La Familia Advocacy Services, Inc., Caltrans Central Valley District 6, Sal & Zulma Gonzales, and The Kashian Family. We all were so happy that Esther’s husband, Gilbert, and daughter, Adelita, could join us to honor her. See more

On Saturday, October 10th, Centro La Familia, Consulado de México en Fresno, Valley Clean Air Now, Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission, Mi Familia Vota, Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula and several organizations held a drive thru food distribution in the City of Orange Cove. Approximately 650 families were served during this event. We want to thank all of the organizations and volunteers that made this event possible to bring this help to members of our community! Atención comunidad de Orange Cove y sus alrededores. Éste sábado 10 de octubre, a las 3:00pm, llevaremos a cabo una entrega de despensas estilo "drive thru" en el Centro Comunitario Víctor P. López. ¡Corre la voz!
