After our January recital last year, all classes started learning new material. Here is the Intermediate Grades Class learning Calabaceados. Shout out to the one dancer who did the dance exactly like her instructor! Hopefully soon we will finish what we started. #folklorico #calabaceados #dance

We learned about a new mural recently painted at Kings Canyon High School in Dinuba. It is gorgeous, inspiring, and powerful. It is the common story of the ...Mexican-American and Latinx communities’ laboring in the fields which often goes unappreciated. But we know very well even before the pandemic how essential this work IS to keep America fed. But that is also a story of hope, that we have for our children to achieve a better future through education and the opportunities it brings. We learned about the mural from Educator, Business Owner, and Performer Oscar Hernandez(of Centro de Folklor our community partner). Taking the lead on the mural and finding the funding was site administrator, Dr. Randy Bessey. Dr. Bessey collaborated with staff to develop the ideas and theme of the mural. Of course, we want to recognize the talented artist , José Elías, who created this mural for the community. Our Last Recital, Bailando Se Quita El Frío, was January 26, 2020. Many of our dancers were ill (some probably with Covid and we didn’t know it), some dancers were in the ER, many dancers had to take spots in a choreography they had never done before, and to top it off we were mourning the death of Kobe and his daughter. Still the show had to go on. We look forward to starting up again some day so we can continue doing what we love.

We just couldn’t resist.

Celebrando la Vida Celebrating Life

Another Amazing Mural unveiling with the 559 Mural Project. This one is located at Sunrise Market in Reedley. Our not-so-Beginning Adult Class performed a creative piece to La Bruja with the help of Joey Zamora. Here are a few pictures of this wonderful event.
