Wishing everyone gentle strength as we enter into the fall and winter holidays. Be gentle with yourself. Know that we have the grief and the holidays workshop coming up on November 15th and our 35th Light of Lights candle ceremony happening on December 13th. All are welcome. Also, much gratitude and honor for our first responders who have risen to support the disaster survivors in our world. You truly are our heroes.

Our wonderful one night Workshop, Grief and the Holidays, is coming up Wednesday evening November 15th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome!! The REJUVENATION RETREAT is coming up this week!! Friday, Oct. 27 9:30am to 4pm. at the Center for Creative Living, 1460 KOLL CIRCLE, Suite C, San Jose. Come and visit with others, have fun, enjoy healing practitioners, laughter, an art project, continental breakfast and lunch catered by Corry! It is a healing day for those whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS including those who are caregivers. Centre For Living With Dying, a program of the Bill Wilson Center.

We are already planning for our fall and winter events! Light of Lights is the jewel of our year. It will be on Wednesday, December 13 at Church of the Valley, 400 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara. Lots of free parking, free event with donations appreciated!

Janet Child's Life Change Workshops schedule is coming up in August! The schedule begins with the FREE Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Basic classes, Wed and Thur, Aug 23 and 24 at the Campbell Community Center (through West Valley College Title V-E funding). If interested, register on upliftfs.org. Look for the gray bar and click on Training. Follow prompts. You can find out about the other Title V-E classes Janet offers on the training schedule here, too! Or call Janet at 408-278-2512. CISM classes are great for anyone interested in learning about crisis intervention after trauma (caregivers, responders or the community).

You are invited to this very uplifting and relaxing event!

Police are only human. If you think of the stress they deal with stopping people, confronting people, risking their lives in any one of these encounters, their physical and emotional systems simply cannot maintain balance. I think a very needed addition to any police department is ongoing Crisis Intervention support to help maintain balance, identify triggers and biases and develop department-wide approaches to minimize events like this very sad and deplorable example. Janet Childs works constantly to help departments set up their own Crisis Intervention teams. - Catherine
