Central Coast Labor Council 15.11.2020

This election, our council has endorsed a record 73 candidates, measures and propositions. Over 100,000 working women, men and their families on the Central Coast have made their voices heard and will fight for the issues of working families. 73 endorsements is a lot, so we've compiled a list on our website at centralcoastlabor.org/endorsements. Now let's get to work.

We have less than 4 hours to vote. Less than 4 hours to tell corporations they can’t buy their own laws that strip you of your rights as a worker. Less than 4 hours to tell Uber, Lyft and Donald Trump that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. #NOon22 #sickofgiggreed #bidenharris

If you’re voting today and on the fence about prop 22, please take a couple of minutes to listen to Daniel Russell, a rideshare driver, about why you should vote #NoOnProp22. Uber and Lyft are running a disinformation campaign claiming riders support Prop 22. They don’t. #SickofGigGreed

On a daily basis, even in the midst of a once in a 100 years pandemic, child care providers step up for children, families and their communities every single day of the week. Now we need the Governor and our state to step up and invest in the future of these programs. Today, Child Care Providers United was in Ventura, along with individual child care workers and families, to show how essential this work is. State support for child care providers is imperative to not only our economic recovery, but to the futures of our children. Thank you to Steve Bennett and Vianey for Oxnard for coming out to stand with and fight for our essential workers. "...employees said, they had no choice but to sleep at work so they could respond to the calls of Amazon Ring's customers in American time zones. The conditions spurred an Amazon investigation after pictures of employees on mattresses and blankets on the floor became public in news reports." At the height of a once-in-a-century global pandemic, Amazon contract workers in the Philippines were forced to sleep in their office alongside other co-workers in order to keep the Amazon machine running. Despite their well documented track record of low pay and inhumane working conditions, Oxnard political leaders seem thrilled that Amazon is coming here to subject Oxnard residents to the same cycle of being overworked, underpaid and undervalued.
