AHSGR Central California Chapter 04.11.2020

Do you know someone who is attending Fresno State or a school in the CSU system? Encourage them to take German classes for the GE requirements or even get a German Minor! German is still a widely used language in many fields such as STEM, and you can even keep your heritage alive or read some of the wonderful native books that the library has to offer. Find out more below or contact us for more information. Jacob Lieder has been volunteering with us and is the President of the German Club at Fresno State! They do events (on normal years) where they watch native German movies or have guest speakers attend campus. The program is led by a wonderful teacher who teaches in a way that really helps you to retain the knowledge.

"It's been nearly a year since our intrepid team of GR's took this "2-hour tour." Fortunately, this group did not get stranded. This video provides an overall view of the 2-story, 14,000 square foot Fresno Fair Cultura Museum located just east of the Chance Avenue entrance. The video also has elements and ideas that focus on our local chapter's potential to expand our outreach into the community by adding our story. Pre-Covid, thousands of students from Fresno Unified toured ...the site each school year. They were given assignments requiring them to answer questions about each of the cultural displays they had visited. For many of those students, it was the first time they became aware of the many cultures inhabiting this valley. Unfortunately, they didn't learn about the Germans from Russia! Next year we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Central California Chapter of the A.H.S.G.R. This project could be one way to salute the efforts of those who created the chapter and established our Library and museum. Our display would also provide an avenue to share the Germans from Russia history with thousands of valley folks who have never heard the story. It would also create a lasting legacy of the thousands who created that history, from German to the Volga, and ultimately to the valley."

Here is how to use and create an Instagram! This is a popular site that is owned by Facebook. We are using Instagram to reach new audiences and promote the Fresno Chapter. We are hoping that this new social media account will help attract a younger generation to come and learn about their ancestry! . https://www.wikihow.com/Use-Instagram

We had visitors from Eugene, Oregon (via Biola and Central High School) stop for genealogy research. Annette was accommodating, helping the family with their research, and our guests were pleased and allowed us to share their experience with a brief video.
