Ethiopians of lighter complexion or those identified as Christian or Jew were hunted and killed by assailants with automatic rifles and with bow and arrow on 22 December. Over 2000 were killed in the Benishangul-Gumuz region. The bodies were discovered after the smell came into town. Families have begun searching the woods in hopes of finding survivors or to identify the dead, however over 250 are unable to be identified so far as some bodies were burned and exposed to wild a...nimals. Several assailants have been captured or killed once federal forces arrived, but over 50,000 Ethiopian Christians, Jews, and those of lighter complexion have chosen to leave due to the assailants promise of return. The assailants have specifically warned that Amhara are not welcome and have put top of their target list. The assailants are strongly believed to be sponsored by the Egyptian government.
